    Senior Proposal Engineer

    In this position, you will be the expert in delivering competitive bids, estimates and quotes to customers for projects in Packaging and E-Houses, Electrification Distribution Solutions (ELDS). You will be responsible to work within the Packaging Group to provide technical and commercial expertise in order to prepare, negotiate and secure complex projects with our customers through the various ABB sales channels. This position requires engineering expertise relative to specific offered product lines and systems in order to obtain projects ranging from <1 MUSD to 100+ MUSD in size.

    Your responsibilities

    • Requires technical understanding and application of medium voltage and low voltage switchgear and motor control center, drives, transformers, batteries and UPS (Uninterruptable Power Source​) systems, E-house buildings, relay panels and an in depth knowledge of ANSI (American National Standards Institute​) standards
    • Requires strong technical skills in order to review customer supplied specifications and develop technical proposals and solutions that better position ABB, such as design optimization of E-house buildings, sizing specific equipment from power loads and preparing technical answers
    • Knowledge, understanding and application of various codes and standards including but not limited to the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), International Building Code (IBC), National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and Process Industry Standards (PIP) as applicable to individual projects
    • Superior negotiating skills both with customers and with all sub vendors involved in a Packaging project in order to achieve both technical and commercial agreement between all parties involved
    • Ability to coordinate equipment delivery schedules with customers and all sub vendors involved in order to mitigate the liquidated damages on drawings and equipment delivery
    • Position ABB as the preferred supplier and long-term partner by working directly with customers to develop a technical and commercial relationship. Define the customer’s requirements and perform specification influence to develop solutions to secure the highest possible ABB penetration
    • Develop an understanding of marketing price levels and drive margin improvement through a value based approach
    • Responsible for presenting product features and advantages through product presentations, hands on demonstrations and performing product training
    • Skill to set up the orders to assist Project Managers execute the project seamlessly and the opportunity to maximize profit margin This skill is essential to ensure customer satisfaction and therefore repeat business
    • Ability to work will internal ABB Legal team to negotiate terms and conditions with customers
    • Develop and lead the marketing strategy to capture new projects by coordinating front end sales, application engineers and factory product marketing groups efforts into a One ABB approach
    • Provide timely updates on orders forecast, target opportunity projects and other related marketing activities
    • Travel required approximately 20%

    Your background

    • Bachelor Degree in Engineering and minimum of 10 years of experience with ANSI manufactured equipment such as switchgear / motor control centers, transformers and drives
    • Ability to read and interpret electrical 1 line diagrams
    • Knowledgeable in power systems and protection related matters
    • Must be able to communicate complex technical subjects to groups of technicians and/or engineers
    • Excellent technical English writing and verbal skills
    • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
    • Self starter that can simultaneously manage multiple complex projects and desires to deliver to customers a high quality, complete proposal that meets or exceeds the customer’s expectations
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications
    • General Knowledge of AutoCAD for completing basic equipment layouts
    • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
