    Senior R&D Engineer - Low Voltage Motor Control Center

    Your role in this position will be to initiate and drive technology and/or product development using in depth technical expertise in a specific area or a broad range of skills in a technical field. You will be responsible for design and development of Low Voltage Motor Control Centers for the North America market.

    This position reports to

    R&D Team Manager

    Your responsibilities

    • Develop new designs, cost reductions and design modifications that will assure product and technology leadership in accordance with the company’s strategic plan
    • Interface with Product Managers, Project Managers and R&D (Research and Development) Engineers during product development and enhancement process to ensure that customer feedback and concerns are addressed in the design
    • Prepare project level and product documentation based on the requirements
    • Document product robustness using simulations, analysis and testing methods
    • Evaluate test plans and test results
    • Prepare and maintain product documentation, instruction manuals, project notebooks and design and test documentation
    • Arrange design reviews, analyze concepts and cost effectiveness of the hardware designs
    • Coordinate engineering activities with purchasing and manufacturing. Assist Purchasing on supplier selection and component evaluation
    • Write papers, participate in technical meetings, seminars and conferences
    • Protect inventions following ABB intellectual property guidelines
    • Ensure that development documentation protocols and procedures are followed in accordance with established R&D and QA process and ISO 9001
    • Prepare and maintain product cost estimates and project plans
    • May require some travel (domestic as well as international)

    Your background

    • Bachelor Degree in Engineering and minimum 8 years in a Product Design related role
    • Master Degree in Mechanical engineering and 5 years of hands on Design experience preferred
    • Strong experience in 3D modeling and 2D drawing and ability to lead and teach others in the use of required software
    • Strong background in Mechanical Design
    • Excellent oral, writing and documentation skills
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    • Technical leadership ability
    • Experience in Low Voltage ANSI MCC design
    • ANSI standards knowledge
    • Type Testing knowledge/experience at independent labs
    • Creo and Windchill 3D software super user
    • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
    • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
