Then, join our team of highly motivated engineers as a (senior) R&D engineer for hardware development, and contribute to the foundations of next-generation ABB products. Reporting to the R&D Manager Electronics Development, you will contribute creative ideas to R&D projects, propose innovative technology development projects and run activities based on your novel ideas. You will cooperate in cross-functional teams, with other engineers inside and outside the company to solve industrial problems. We expect that you show a high motivation, hands-on attitude as well as taking initiative to come up with new ideas that tackle today’s challenges.

    Your responsibilities

    • You design, develop, and implement analog and digital circuits from early concept phase to serial production for motor protection and control, and safety products.
    • You create schematics and define constraints for PCB layout.
    • You define verification specifications and execute verification activities of your designs by simulation and prototype testing.
    • You create manufacturing documentation for serial production and specifications for production test equipment.
    • You contribute to discussions of intellectual property and support preparation of project clearance reports.
    • You collaborate closely with system architects and software developers to breakdown system requirements to requirement specifications for hardware.
    • You monitor technology developments and technologies to identify technical drivers for R&D projects, supported by your thorough understanding of key business drivers for ABB’s products and solutions.
    • You participate in internal and external networks to expand your knowledge of your area of expertise.
    • You take responsibility for hardware development projects, as (senior) project member or as project leader, including risk identification, alignment with targets, and close coordination with suppliers and other functions (e.g. product management).

    Your background

    • M.Sc. or B.Sc degree in Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems or comparable program
    • At least 3 years of experience in development of electronics within embedded systems as a hardware design engineer
    • Sound knowledge in designing electronic circuits, circuit diagrams, PCB layouts and simulation tools
    • Strong knowledge in EMC compatible design
    • A solution-focused approach as well as strong written and spoken communication skills
    • Experience in development in safety products would be considered a plus
    • Self-reliant attitude to work, initiative and organizing ability
    • Willingness to travel internationally (<5%)
    • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential (C1); German language skills (B2) are beneficial but not a prerequisite
