    ABB Research is developing the foundations for the next generation of ABB products in close collaboration with ABB Divisions. In Switzerland, the ABB Research Center located in Baden-Dättwil in the proximity of Zurich, employs around 100 scientists from more than 30 countries with expertise in various disciplines. The mission of this team is to bring modern and disruptive power electronic solutions from research into product development. We improve our products by holistic optimization, pushing forward novel converter topologies as well as optimizing key components.     This position reports to

    R&D Principal Engineer

    Your responsibilities

    • Simulate and optimize power electronic topologies and converters to make them suitable for a variety of power electronic applications
    • Analyze and evaluate converter solutions from component level up to converter/module level as well as the impact on the system level. Identify benefits and drawbacks
    • Design, implement and test converter prototypes in the lab
    • Come up with new innovative power electronic concepts
    • Initiate, lead and participate in power electronic converter design projects with full commitment
    • Interact and actively communicate with our business line partners

    Your background

    • PhD in power electronics and excellent scientific
    • Experience with the design of 3-phase grid connected inverters, motor drives, and knowledge of machines is an advantage
    • Proven hands-on laboratory skills for converter prototyping and testing of electrical converters in the lab
    • Strong expertise in power electronic circuit design and analysis
    • Experience in system level analysis
    • Additional experience in medium-voltage applications, magnetics, semiconductors and control is welcome
    • Fluency in English, both spoken and written
