    As a Senior Project Engineer, you will be the design authority for engineering projects in LV (Low Voltage) switchgear systems ANSI, Electrification Distribution Solutions (ELDS) in Mebane, North Carolina, making technical recommendations and enhancing customer satisfaction by providing excellent service. In this role you will be responsible for designing and executing the protection and control engineering components of projects and ensure that all related activities are performed in accordance with ABB policy, contractual agreements, quality standards, HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) requirements, financial targets and schedule commitments. Also, you will be responsible for engineering analysis and troubleshooting for automation, control, and protection in power systems. Approach customers with integrity and respect for long lasting relationships. You will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives per business metric.

    Your responsibilities

    • Technical Contribution: Protection and control engineering design for MV (Medium Voltage) / LV power systems. Review and correctly interprets customer specifications and single line diagrams to select adequate protective relays and design / program related automation functions
    • Manages the complete life cycle of protection and control engineering tasks including review of customer engineering documents, preparation of scoping document, implementation of relay logic with engineering tools, configuration of IEC61850 for peer to peer communication, development of relay system description and testing procedures. Support system testing during Factory Accept Test (FAT) and Site Integration Test (SAT) and troubleshooting
    • Coordinate work to execute engineering tasks ensuring timely release of design documents
    • Sales Support: Providing presales support for proof of concept and system architecture review / recommendations
    • Planning and Control: Developing presentations, demonstrations and lab set up for protection & control projects for customer projects and for proof of concept. Develop and maintenance of protection and controls architectures and standard solutions
    • Change management: Coordinate and drive continuous improvement activities and quality projects. Utilize change management to implement and improve relevant processes, policies and procedures to improve effectiveness across the engineering team
    • Risk management: Reviewing and providing feedback on network requirements and application. Consult within the engineering team to determine project milestone completion and to maintain committed delivery dates
    • Customer focus: Establish and maintain relationships with required external and internal stakeholders to ensure that the customer requirements are understood and being achieved. Providing support for troubleshooting protection, control and automation projects over the phone and / or on site
    • Communication: Effectively communicate technical aspects of Projection, control and automation related project activities vertically and horizontally in the organization

    Your background

    • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent and minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in power systems design regarding protection and control
    • Must possess a strong technical background and knowledge of protection and control systems for LV / MV and HV power systems
    • Must be familiar with power system architectures, troubleshooting tools for protection systems and power systems analysis
    • Proven experience with IEC 61850 based substation automation schemes
    • Experience with other protective relay communication protocols including DNP & Modbus is highly desirable
    • Demonstrated teamwork, quality control, risk analysis and risk mitigation
    • ABB Relion relays and SSC600 hands on design and configuration experience
    • Strong understanding on SCADA and automation systems
    • Proficient with MS office tools including Visio or equivalent and other applicable software programs
    • Problem solver and a team player with hands on experience

    • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to travel up to 20%
    • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
