    As a Specialist Technical Advisor for Automation, Telecommunications & Cyber Security, you will be responsible to own development of Technical Solutions in the pursuit phase of typically large and strategic project and service pursuits, across Automation, Telecommunications, Digital and Cyber Security, and produce high quality technical content in the Bid phase, collaborating with the front-end Sales function and Bid Managers, typically working within a dedicated Capture Team. Whilst required to work across Market Segments, the role will predominantly involve high value tenders in the Energy Transition market sub-segments, which is a rapid growth area. This may include Offshore Wind, Hydrogen, CCUS, Nuclear SMR, Offshore Electrification, Energy from Waste, Waste to Fuels, Waste to Chemicals, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, District Heating, Battery Energy Storage, Microgrids and EV Charging Infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Studies, Tendering, Technical Advisory & Commercial Manager, you will ensure successful delivery of tenders on time, in line with specifications and with quality and safety guidelines in mind. May support the small-scale delivery of strategic Studies as a precursor to subsequent ABB project opportunities. Will proactively drive, create, and work with wider ABB product groups on behalf of the UK Local Division, in developing and maturing the technical Solution offerings in Energy Transition market sub-segments into the UK market. There is geographic flexibility within the UK for the best candidate. This is not a home-based role, but there is great flexibility around working from home.

    Your responsibilities

    • Provide early phase technical advisory support, in collaboration with the front end, advising on technical issues, fronting customer workshops and presentations.
    • Depending on the opportunities, short term travel to customer locations in the UK and overseas may be required.
    • Assisting sales managers with opportunity prospecting, compliance to customer specifications and safety standards, as well as technical details, writeups, costs, and deliverables for sales proposals.
    • May own specific opportunities outright, including front end and technical solution, if in line with skillsets.
    • Must consider financial elements and impact in design of technical solutions, to develop a holistic work winning position.
    • Maintaining a strong network of engineering professionals and disseminating engineering best practices to aid colleagues’ development.
    • Developing, selecting, and applying standardized solutions, procedures, and tools, reporting inefficiencies, and identifying improvement opportunities, of ABB’s standard deliveries and products.

    Your background

    • 15+ years’ experience in industrial automation, working with the latest ICSS & SCADA products and all relevant and compatible networks in accordance with IEC standards and cyber security requirements.
    • 5+ years’ experience in providing support to proposals & project execution for Telecoms & Cyber security projects within the Energy Industries sector.
    • Sound knowledge of engineering techniques, processes, and tools, including interpreting the customer specification into application codes, system, and network design proposals.
    • A high level of self-motivation, curiosity, and a desire to learn about new technologies.
    • A collaborative approach to working, demonstrating strong customer facing communication and leadership skills.
    • Engineering Qualification B.Eng or M.Eng. (Automation, Software, Electronics, Systems, Instrumentation), or equivalent level of acquired experience .
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English language.
    • Current residence permits valid in ABB UK.
    • Extensive experience in Cyber security solutions for Control Systems (DCS&SCADA) is a must. Included but not limited to: Risk assessments, compliance with standards (IEC62443, OG86, NIST 800, etc.) SIEM design, IDS design, IPS design, Network design remediation.
    • Experience in ABB control systems for DCS & SCADA solutions – 800xA, AC500, SCADA Vantage, ABB Zenon, ABB Freelance.
    • Reasonable level of experience in 800xA & AC800M controllers desirable.
    • Extensive experience in design, engineering, and execution for Telecoms systems, included but not limited to: Network design, PAGA, IDS (PIDS/FIDS), AWOS, Radar, Telemetry, berthing systems, IPT, Wi-Fi, 5G,
    • Experience in other mayor DCS/PLC & SCADA systems can also be considered (Honeywell, Yokogawa, Siemens, Emerson)
    • Exposure to hardware design (Cabinet build, heat & power calculations.)
    • Knowledge in Common Software - Modbus Simulators, IEC simulators.
    • Industrial Protocols- IEC61850, OPC, Modbus RTU/TCP, Profibus & ProfiNet.
    • Industry Knowledge - Networking, Cyber Security (IEC62443), IOT, Industry 4.0, SCADA, PLC, Industrial protocol.
