Position summary

Job Description

The Sr. Systems Engineer supports a large-scale Distributed Infrastructure, providing technical leadership in problem solving, maintenance, and project build situations, formulating solutions for improvement, and working with peers to establish a strategic direction for the environment. This position will install, maintain, and configure systems infrastructure remotely on a widely distributed network. The incumbent acts under general directions and with limited supervision with the ability to provide technical leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform advanced Systems Administration tasks for Linux and Windows.
  • Maintain all aspects of Nutanix Hyper-converged infrastructure.
  • Follow company security standards, create and implement remediation plans for security related reported vulnerabilities. 
  • Responsible for accomplishing DR exercises on regular basis which includes documentation, collaboration with other teams and process improvements.
  • Research, evaluate, recommend and implement information technology that aligns with business needs and meets objectives.
  • Serve as a technical resource for support services, business partners, and customers.
  • Lead the coordination of activities between multiple disciplines within IT and vendors on both technical and non-technical issues pertaining to computer system hardware and software, network infrastructure, peripheral evaluation and integration.
  • Install, maintain and perform configuration of Infrastructure LINUX based applications like LDAP, SAMBA, SENDMAIL, etc.
  • Upgrade Applications and Tools, install patches, troubleshoot and resolve application problems, performance tuning and capacity planning.
  • Lead and coordinate activities for incident management, service development, service transition, and continual service improvement of systems infrastructure services.
  • Recommend, improve and document systems engineering processes and procedures.
  • Participate in an on-call 24x7 rotation, or weekend work along with other Systems Engineers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated understanding of software engineering, systems engineering, or Information Systems Management within the LINUX domain.
  • Working knowledge of Nutanix infrastructure.
  • Experienced with modernizing/upgrading older OS levels to gain supportability.
  • Experienced with Windows servers management within distributed data centers.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory and DNS.
  • Experience in day to day system activities such as backups, performance monitoring and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to technical and none-technical audiences.
  • Practical knowledge developing scripts or applications to automate systems implementation, configuration, or management.
  • Experienced working within standard project management methodologies.
  • Proven experience at handling multiple assignments and using strong prioritization skills.
  • Experienced with several modern operating systems or platforms.
  • Experienced with Systems Infrastructure engineering in a large distributed environment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; and
  • 10+ years’ experience in LINUX Systems Engineering; or
  • 15+ years of LINUX experience and certifications can suffice for bachelor’s degree
