    AES seeks an attorney with significant corporate transactional and commercial contracting experience for its U.S. Utilities and Generation Business Unit (US SBU), which includes electric utility companies and generation businesses in the U.S.

    The US SBU is an important part of AES’ mission of accelerating the future of energy together, leading energy transitions with major smart grid implementations and replacement generation initiatives that are integrating renewable resources at our US Utilities with over 1 million customers.  The position reports to the US SBU General Counsel and provides legal transaction and ongoing support for domestic acquisition, divestiture, project development and financing transactions and initiatives, as well as drafting, negotiating and reviewing energy sales, hedging, fuel supply and other commercial contracts. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of the internal legal efforts, including managing outside counsel, and directly advising business units on these matters. 

    Must have experience leading complex transactions and handling complex contracts. 

    Office location is in Dayton, Ohio or Indianapolis, IN, and the company is currently using hybrid remote working.
     

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    • Managing legal efforts for domestic acquisitions, divestitures, project development, and financing transactions and other initiatives
    • Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing commercial agreements, with a preference for experience with EPC, Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), and other energy related contracts.
    • Assist in other matters where needed

    Desired Experience and Attributes

    • J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one state.
    • 6 to 10 years of relevant experience at a large law firm or comparable in-house corporate environment with a sophisticated corporate practice.
    • Energy sector experience preferred.
    • Smart, decisive, organized, methodical, biased toward action.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with multiple internal group members in different functions and businesses.
    • Independent, self-driven personality capable of carrying out broad legal assignments with minimal supervision and to communicate well with employees at all levels of the organization.
    • Requires the ability to manage time very well, to quickly adapt to changing schedules and work assignments.  Some travel required. 
    • Superior judgment and discretion.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving and consulting abilities.
    • Exceptional and demonstrated attention to detail
    • Unquestionable ethics and integrity.
