    The Innovation Design Engineer of the AES CE Innovation & Technology group assesses designs of AES CE operating assets (wind, solar and BESS) to highlight flaws and strengths of current designs and collaborate with the Business Development and the Engineering, Procurement & Construction teams to ensure that design weaknesses are addressed into future designs and lessons learned from operating and maintenance experience are fully incorporated into future designs of renewable power plants. The Design Engineer team is also charged with engaging with O&M improvements, field operation, and performance teams to design and retrofit components and parts to ensure continuous and efficient operation AES CE assets.

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Gain a thorough understanding of various designs and architectures of all AES CE operating fleet including wind, solar, and BESS plants.
    • Identify strength, weakness, and flaws of AEC CE current operating fleet.
    • Collaborate with the Development, Engineering Procurement and Construction teams to incorporate lessons learned from operating and maintenance experience to design better renewable power plants.
    • Own the redesign, and retrofit of various renewable parts/components to support continuous operations of assets and ensure maximum production
    • Collaborate with internal and external collaborators to design and develop retrofit equipment using various design/modeling tools such as AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D
    • Support the deploy of select new technology-based initiatives such as robotics needed retrofit/redesign to fit into existing or future assets- that are consistent with the company’s purpose of accelerating the future of energy through growth and scaling
    • Support the development of AI/ML applications to enhance reliability and yield

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science degree (or related experience)
    • 5+ years of proven experience and proficiency in design renewable assets’ components large-scale renewable energy projects (wind, solar, energy storage) utilizing AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D, preferably
    • Evidence of following the design process from initial concept stages through tooling release and production launch
    • A passion for multi-disciplinary design, integrating design consideration from civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural engineering disciplines.
    •  Experience leading continuous improvement projects using lean six sigma and APEX tools to optimize asset construction and operation
    • Capability to work dynamically and collaboratively across multiple teams and projects in a technical business environment
    • Capable of taking care of the ambiguity and the flexibility to change direction as additional information becomes available
    • Planning and project management skills for multiple change efforts
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including an ability to maintain calm and effective exchanges by all parties
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills
    • Strong mentoring skills

    This position is 100% remote, working from home, with 25 – 30% travel within the US and internationally. The ideal candidate will live within the United Sates, have a valid passport (or be able to obtain one), and a valid US driver’s license.

    The expected salary for this position begins at $85,000 (minimum). Factors that may be used to determine final salary offered include relevant experience, skills, location, qualifications and other factors, consistent with applicable law. This position is eligible to receive an annual bonus.
