We are looking for a Team Lead, Data Analytics (BESS), to report to the Manager of Structuring and Analytics (BESS) in the AES Clean Energy commercial business. The role will support the commercial platform in modeling and valuing Battery Energy Storage Systems, and partner with other business functions in Structured Origination, Term Trading, Structured Trading, Engineering, and Risk Management. Main Responsibilities

  • Lead development of battery dispatch model functionality as needed to support customer transactions, including innovative, first-to-market deal types. 
  • Work with regulatory, engineering, market operations, and trading teams to improve modeling accuracy and adapt to changing market conditions.
  • Coordinate with members of the Commercial team to communicate model results and changes to broader AES partners.
  • Act as an internal subject matter expert in BESS project valuation and modeling, using model results to educate and coordinate with other teams across the AES CE business.
  • Support the AES Clean Energy deal pipeline with development of project revenue models for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Coordinate with Business Development, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Origination teams to ensure asset revenues and Power Purchase Agreements are adequately reflected within the investment due diligence process.
  • Deliver improvements and automation for existing battery dispatch models to shorten turnaround times and apply findings holistically to the business infrastructure.
  • Develop a deep understanding of commercial impacts affecting AES CE business, grow their own skills, contribute to building the wider team, and progress along the career path. 

Qualifications 

  • Extensive experience with US Wholesale power markets (ERCOT, CAISO preferred)
  • Knowledge of renewable and BESS asset revenue streams and their valuation.
  • Deep experience in at least one programming language (https://e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, C/C++), R and Python preferred.
  • Experience with optimization models and linear optimization.
  • Previous experience building production level models for power market.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Finance, Engineering, Math, Physics, Data Science, Business Analytics or similar. Master’s Degree in those areas preferred.
  • 3-4 years of relevant work experience in the energy industry in related functions such as trading, portfolio management, asset management, investment advisory, quantitative analytics, risk analytics and similar.

The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
