    Job description:

    Our team is growing and we are actively looking to hire a Senior Expense Analyst.

    In this role, the Senior Expense Analyst as part of the Finance department's Expense Planning and Spend Analysis team provides detailed reporting of expenses to support Allstate Canada Group (ACG) departments, actual variance to plan analysis, allocation review, headcount analysis, monthly reforecasts, and annual plan processes, provides expertise and in-depth analysis of expenses and specialized reporting, participates in or leads functional and cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

    Accountabilities:

    Expense Analysis

    • Analyzes expenses by company, department, and region to identify areas of risk or opportunity with recommendations.

    • Leads the month-end close process (e.g. recording journal entries, account reconciliation, statutory / management reporting, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, etc.), and monitors accruals and pre-paids for assigned functional areas.

    • Conducts the first review of periodic deliverables and ad hoc analyses produced by other team members.

    • Monitors assigned functional area actual variance to plan expenses and conducts in-depth analysis to determine and question reasons for variances.

    • Identifies and highlights variances to ensure effective teamwork and communication and establish findings and drivers for further review in assigned functional areas for leadership decision-making.

    • Reviews net savings to ensure reasonability and challenges assumptions by identifying key trends before submitting estimates for consolidation and further leadership analysis to determine spend management.

    • Develops year-end expense reforecasts for assigned functional areas by consolidating quantified year-end variances due to timing, savings, and risks (unexpected costs) to determine net savings.

    • Reviews and consults functional area expense plans for reasonability and addresses any concerns for resolution.

    • Responds to requests for information (e.g. auditor questions, quarterly / year-end external reporting requirements, etc.).

    • Prepares and reviews presentations to highlight key messages, risks and opportunities for the leadership team.

    • Provides expense planning and spend expertise to functional and cross-functional teams and projects.

    Practice Maturity

    • Develops and maintains database retrievals, reports, and processes for preparing internal and external reports.

    • Leads and participates in system upgrades / migrations for expense reporting, tracking, and planning tools.

    • Identifies, plans, develops, and leads new ideas, techniques, and opportunities for improving operational effectiveness, performance, and productivity and recommends improvements and automations to work processes and team deliverables.

    • Develops and delivers user documentation and training for internal expense and planning processes and systems.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting.

    • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or working toward completion.

    • Requires 4+ years of experience in financial analysis and forecasting, budget formulation, financial planning, financial controls, and preparing financial performance reports.

    • Proficiency in System Applications and Products (SAP) or similar accounting software.

    • Mathematical and business acumen.

    • Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

    • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

    • Organization and time management skills with attention to detail in a busy environment.

    • Advanced Excel Skills, macro / Visual Basic (VBA) experience is an asset.
