    Job description:

    The Senior Tax Analyst acts as a team lead for the Canadian tax team for key activities (e.g. tax compliance, tax accounting, provisioning, audits, governance, etc.) for the Allstate Canada Group (ACG) of companies. Applies current tax legislation to minimize corporate taxes paid; analyze, verify, and reconcile corporate tax accounts and returns; coordinate external audits; and research corporate tax issues.

    Accountabilities:

    Tax Analysis & Reporting

    • Prepares and assists tax team members in preparing detailed quarterly and annual tax provision including recording journal entries, reconciling and analyzing accounts.

    • Prepares and assists team members with preparing premium tax, income tax, and HST/GST returns in a timely manner.

    • Coordinates provincial income tax, commodity tax, transfer pricing tax, and HST/GST tax audits with CRA, auditors, and business partners.

    • Provides tax expertise and input into processes that impact business units throughout the organization and acts as a technical escalation point for tax issues. Acts as a tax subject matter expert.

    • Leads tax projects and conducts detailed analysis for cross-functional projects.

    • Analyzes tax effects of business transactions and prepares memos and reports on the tax effects; communicates internally on a variety of tax matters.

    • Assists with database maintenance / records management for tax compliance activities and the continuou s improvement of tax process documentation

    Practice Maturity

    • Acts as a team lead for Tax Group.

    • Identifies and implements operational efficiencies that improve tax function.

    • Provides training to tax team members on more complex processes.

    • Proactively assesses/recommends and implements controls for tax processes.

    • Participates in tax planning projects.

    • Draws conclusions and creates an independent view about internal and external causes and trends.

    Qualifications:

    • Accounting designation required (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA)

    • Requires 3+ years of related experience in corporate income tax and commodity tax.

    • Financial reporting, preferably within the financial services or insurance industry.

    • Accounting principles (e.g. IFRS, GAAP) and legal and regulatory tax accounting requirements.

    • Legal and regulatory financial reporting requirements.

    • Proficiency in System Applications and Products (SAP) or similar accounting software.

    • Mathematical, financial, and business acumen.

    • Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

    • Research, analytical, critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

    • Project coordination, prioritization, and time management skills with attention to detail.

    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).

    Bonus Qualifications:

    • Enrolled in or completed In-Depth Tax program an asset.
