Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will help realize Amgen’s Research and Development (R&D) Digital Strategy. In partnership with enterprise data platform teams, functional technology teams and data scientists, this role will provide leadership in technical architecture and design for the successful delivery of key R&D data initiatives that are contributing to the advancement of a connected data vision, including the Enterprise Data Fabric (EDF) and associated data products. The Amgen Data Fabric is composed of data domains which are based on formal ontologies and presented to data scientists and applications in both a graph and relational formats. The Enterprise Data Fabric serves as an information backbone to accelerate the ability of Amgen business leaders to understand and optimize business processes through analytic systems. The enablement of a connected data ecosystem is a key dependency for the realization of critical business strategies across Research and Development, such as AI/ML and advancing precision medicine.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop a strong understanding of Research and Development's business needs, business information and systems and translate to data solution requirements.
• Collaborating with business partners and technical partners to translate business process and data characteristics into Data Solutions and Data Domains that can be implemented in the context of the Enterprise Data Fabric.
• Leading and being hands-on for the development of Data Domain deliverables, including technical framework, informal sketches of the data domain, and formal ontologies and data mappings that define the conversion of source system data to the model.
• Ensuring that solutions are extensible and capable of scaling out to meet anticipated growth by working with subject matter experts to gather requirements and use cases.
• Assessment of pre-existing internal and external ontologies and assess their fit for purpose
• Providing training and mentorship, review and oversight to other Amgen teams that are engaged in parallel projects for the Data Fabric.
• Setting technical and quality standards for use as guidance by multiple teams.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree & 2 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Master’s degree & 6 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree & 8 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Associate’s degree & 10 years of Information Systems experience

Or

High school diploma / GED & 12 years of Information Systems experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• 4+ years of life sciences Research and Development domain experience with an emphasis on data, analytics, data management, reporting. Including experience working with regulations that define data security and privacy.
• Experience with distributed data architectures
• Training in ontological development, either through formal training or on-the-job development. Should have experience in data modeling or related analytical skills and be able to interact with data modeling professionals. Individuals with backgrounds in library science, artificial intelligence and machine learning have been successful in this.
• Ideally experienced with OWL2, RDF, SPARQL, and the working knowledge of programming against triplestores and/or knowledge graphs.
• Developing or enabling data consumption capabilities, https://i.e. data catalog, data exchange, data management
• Experience with AWS technologies such as S3, Redshift, DataBricks
• Able to use SQL to query and inspect relational system data.
• Working knowledge of relational data modeling principles.
• 2 + years experience working with agile development methodologies such as Sprint and Scrum
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Penchant to learn about new technology innovation and creativity in applying to business problems

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the https://U.S. is $141,321 to $167,253.
