    Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will be a part of our Biochemistry of Induced Proximity (BIP) group. We are seeking an accomplished Scientist to contribute to the Discovery Technology Platforms organization tasked with the discovery of novel therapeutics.

    The BIP group is focused on enhancing our understanding of the biochemistry of ubiquitin ligases and other related enzymes involved in cellular protein and RNA degradation. These efforts including the discovery of Proteolysis and Ribonuclease-targeting Targeting Chimeras (PROTACs and PRIBOTACs) and Molecular Glues to advance Amgen’s drug discovery pipeline of intractable and difficult-to-drug therapeutic targets.

    This is a unique opportunity for those who are interested in conducting basic research in the targeted macromolecule degradation field while directly impacting therapeutic discovery programs at a premier organization.

    The candidate will work collaboratively with researchers across multiple functions within the DTP as well as across disease therapeutic areas and the Therapeutics Discovery organization. The successful candidate will also work with external partners and contract research organizations (CROs) and have the opportunity to present scientific work at national and international conferences.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Planning, design, implementation, and documentation of laboratory studies related to the studying of protein complexes.
    • Design of DNA constructs and the use of rational and computational tools for the engineering of protein constructs to ensure successful protein expression, purification and structural determination.
    • Perform expression, purification, and characterization of recombinant proteins to support various aspects of drug discovery efforts related to Targeted Protein and RNA Degradation.
    • Perform biochemical, biophysical and structural characterization of protein complexes.
    • Study of protein-protein, protein-RNA interactions and enzymology of protein ubiquitination reactions.
    • Collaborate within and across interdisciplinary teams to advance our understanding of Targeted Protein and RNA Degradation mechanisms.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Doctorate Degree OR
    • Master's Degree and 4 years of protein chemistry/related experience/OR
    • Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of protein chemistry/related experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • PhD in Biochemistry, Protein Chemistry, Structural Biology, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
    • Excellent communications skills.
    • Strong scientific reasoning, data analysis and problem-solving skills as evidenced by high impact scientific publications.
    • Highly motivated to work in a cross-functional and fast-paced environment.
    • Work independently to plan, lead, and perform experiments.
    • Ability to develop a deep understanding of projects aimed at discovering novel therapeutics.
    • Strong understanding of protein biochemistry and biophysics principles, including those pertaining to enzyme kinetics, protein complex formation, and protein-substrate interactions.

    The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $127,590-146,160.
