    Position summary

    Our products are physics-based mission modeling and simulation software, used by thousands of customers worldwide to solve some truly difficult problems, from evaluating 5G comm link coverage to navigating to the moon.

    As a Lead R&D Engineer (AI/ML Developer), you will lead the design and development of AI/ML-infused software products and capabilities. You will be hands-on, developing new capabilities in a commercially-released product. Additionally, you will use your expertise in the domain to support and influence our business' AI/ML strategy, identify the most lucrative opportunities to leverage AI/ML tools and technology in existing product capabilities, and provide technical and thought leadership, guidance, and education to your teammates and subject matter experts in other domains.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • Leads planning, architecture, and implementation at a project level

    • Applies ML methods to products and processes, including identification, evaluation, implementation and maintenance

    • Acts as a technical reference, staying abreast of the latest ML methods, and identifies promising areas of research applicable to AGI products

    • Disseminates ML knowledge and awareness throughout the business unit

    • Develops and employs best practices and promotes them across the group through technical reviews and mentoring

    • Works collaboratively, as well as independently, without direct supervision; this includes gathering and documenting requirements from SMEs and stakeholders

    • Performs complex bug verification; researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions, collaborating with the QA/support team

    • Researches and understands the marketing requirements for new products and capabilities, including target customers, performance criteria, and competitive issues

    • May work directly with customers or proxies to assess their needs and develop solutions

    Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

    • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 8 years' experience, MS with 6 years' experience, or PhD with 4 years' experience

    • Expert knowledge with various unsupervised and supervised ML models, data science techniques, and their applications

    • 3+ years of proven, hands-on experience in taking ML models and algorithms from proof-of-concept to production-quality; this includes experience in productizing models and algorithms

    • Strong proficiency programming in Python, in production quality code

    Preferred Qualifications and Skills

    • Programming experience in C++, Java or C#

    • Programming experience using ML libraries, such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch, Tensorflow, or Keras, and scientific computing libraries: numpy, pandas, and SciPy

    • Programming experience with data viz libraries such as matplotlib, seaborn, or HoloViz/Panel

    • Possesses a strong desire to support cross-discipline R&D work and willingness to ramp up on domains outside of AI/ML

    • Ability to identify when AI/ML is the best approach to solve problems and when it's not

    • Experience with large language models and prompt design

    • Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud

    • Published research in the application of AI/ML in the fields of astrodynamics, optical or radar imagery, dynamical systems, physics, or related domains

    • Experience leading projects and delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment

    • Ability to translate business needs into development plans

    • Ability to overcome obstacles and drive projects to completion

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and geographies, and to mentor junior engineers
