    Position summary

    tical Engineer to work on the development and system-level integration of new illumination components such as the camera flash.

    Description

    • Model and optimize the performance and appearance of various illumination systems involving LEDs, lenses, coatings, diffusers, and light guides. - Communicate your optical simulation results to the cross-functional team. Work with mechanical engineering and product design teams to address manufacturing and system integration constraints. - Take designs into production. Work with suppliers on prototypes. Troubleshoot issues by defining proper metrology, requesting and analyzing the necessary data, and making a decision on the solution. - Characterize the optical behavior of materials, surfaces, and light sources in order to improve the accuracy and reliability of our optical models. - Evaluate the feasibility of new design concepts and new optical technologies.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant field of study and 3 years of related work or academic experience

    • Experience in LightTools, FRED, SPEOS, or Zemax non-sequential

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master's or PhD degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant field of study

    • Experience in optical design applied to illumination systems such as general lighting, automotive lighting, displays, cameras, or optical metrology.

    • Ability to write scripts to automate optical simulations and data analysis (Python, Matlab, C#, C++, VB)

    • Experience with optical characterization equipment such as spectrophotometers and scatterometers

    • Understanding of LEDs and solid-state lighting

    • Familiarity with CAD software such as NX or SolidWorks

    • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams to support integration of illumination components into systems and assess feasibility of new optical concepts

    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, take initiative, and explore new ideas

    Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
