The Cook is responsible for cooking and preparing food according to recipes and production guidelines while adhering to food safety, food handling, and sanitation procedures. The Cook should safely handle knives and equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, broilers, etc.
o Ensure that your workstations are Clean, Sanitized, Maintained and Organized at all times (CLEAN AS YOU GO).
o ALWAYS have the CORRECT SERVING UTENSILS and product identification/signage (P.I.D’s) for service. Adhere to serving and portioning specifications.
o Assist with COLOR BLOCKING, changing display if required.
o COMMUNICATE daily with cook 1’s and Culinary Supervisor to ensure product knowledge and consistency (KNOW WHAT YOU’RE SERVING).
o Ensure Safety & Sanitation guidelines and procedures are always adhered to. See Daily Safety Brief posted on the Communication board opposite the Staff room. (SAFETY BEGINS AND ENDS WITH EVERYONE). Always WORK SAFE!
o ALWAYS ensure that Hot & Cold holding equipment is turned on/off as necessary and held at appropriate temperature.
o Ensure that Food hierarchy is strictly adhered to and all products are labelled and dated correctly and legibly.
o Complete Daily cleaning logs/ schedules/Day at a Glance (Opening, Service, Closing), and Pre-start Inspection Checklist at your station.
o ALWAYS have Soap and Sanitizer at your workstation and ensure that they are used and replenished accordingly (Sanitizer changed every 2hours, more often if used a lot/ Cleaning solution as needed.)
o ALWAYS work with Proper P.P.E. (Footwear, Cut gloves Aprons etc.)
o ALWAYS practice Civility and Respect in the workplace toward yourself, fellow associates and Supervisors.
o ALWAYS Inform your Supervisor/Chef when taking breaks and at the end of the shift. Always Sign in and out of Kronos at the start and end of your shift and for your 30min. break.
o Employees Handbook (Please refer to for additional guidelines & Company policies)
o Perform other job related duties as directed/ assigned by the Executive chef/Food Service Manager/ Sous Chef/ Culinary Supervisor.
o Ensure Fridges/ Coolers are Clean and Organized at all times (proper labelling & dating of all products)
o Subject to change and/ or be amended as per business and clients’ needs
o ALWAYS Maintain excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards guests, customers, clients and co-workers at all times. (W.E.S.T) Welcome, Engage, Smile, Thank you.
o ALWAYS know what you are serving, be aware of allergies and food intolerances at all times. Consult your Supervisor for verification and accuracy, do not assume.
o Make sure Production Sheets and Temperature logs are completed each shift as required.
o ALWAYS do a STATION-CHECK with your Culinary Supervisor, Sous chef OR Chef before completing your shift.
o Please adhere to All AHS updates and Pandemic Protocols as they become available. See Communication board in the entry way.
• Experience as a cook or in a related role required
• Validated knowledge of the basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations such as accurate food handling, sanitation, and storage
• Must be able to acquire food safety certification
• Demonstrate basic math and counting skills
• Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
