Mechanical Engineer (Facilities)

Introduction to the job

The Senior Mechanical Engineer (Facilities) will provide engineering and technical support (for design, installation, startup/commissioning, testing, validation /qualification, operation and maintenance) of Capital Equipment and systems within a manufacturing environment in San Diego, CA.

Role and responsibilities

• Reviews designs and feasibilitystudies, perform design calculations.
• Provide design and operationalsupport of plant utility systems, including, HVAC, chillers, cooling towers,chilled water, glycol, heating hot water, and emergency tempered waterdistribution systems.
• Provide engineering support todevelop scope of work, project execution plans, and associated engineeringstudies for equipment / component installation, modification, replacement,in accordance with site specifications. Revise drawings, P&IDs, SOPsand develop test plans leveraging site project management and changecontrol procedures.
• Support the development ofdesign, startup and test documents including User RequirementSpecification, Functional Requirement Specification, commissioning andqualification test plans, as applicable.
• Provide technical troubleshooting support using Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) with goodengineering practices and problem solving techniques.
• Support proactive reliabilityassessments including data collection, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis(FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), HAZOP analysis and process improvementinitiatives. Leverage data to optimize PM plans and materials ofconstruction for robust asset performance.
• Drives the generation and on-going updating of engineering standards and specifications as well as other engineering-related documentation to support facility / utility design, validation, qualifications and commissioning activities.
• Establishes and maintains cross functional relationships with manufacturing, engineering, quality control, development and regulatory for engineering optimization and support of a successful facility validation and engineering program.
• Provides leadership and direction to facility engineering team members in support of their site and regional goals and objectives.
• Leads continuous improvement and sustaining efforts to improve effectiveness of global engineering programs.
• Assess and recommend work instruction updates and change management controls to qualified systems to ensure a state of compliance is maintained and audit readiness.

Education and experience

• Requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering and a minimum of 3-8 years of relevant experience.
• Experience using AutoCAD.
• Experience utilizing, Excel MATLAB, Python is a plus.
• Technical knowledge in HVAC, clean room filtration,boilers, water purification, wastewater collection and treatment, processcooling water, central plant utilities exhaust ventilation, air treatmentsystems, high-purity gas distribution, gas detection, process gases,safety alarm systems, electrical distribution and clean room operationsdesired.
