Position Overview
The Group’s primary responsibilities includes:
Supporting the work of the Federal Public Policy and State Government Relations teams in building long-term, sustainable relationships with influencers and grass-roots communities to reach mutually-beneficial outcomes on behalf of our stakeholders and Bank of America.
Supporting company leaders across the various lines of business and local market leaders in articulating policy positions and issuing analysis when engaging with external stakeholders, community leaders, influencers, and senior public officials.
Developing policy frameworks and recommendations that will inform and guide policy debates through evidence-based research and sustained stakeholder engagement to respond to and address socioeconomic and environmental challenges of the 21st Century.
Creating sound, data-driven policy recommendations and solutions that support our dual mandate to drive Responsible Growth by delivering for all of our stakeholders – including our clients, employees, and communities – AND to help address important societal priorities.
We seek a Public Policy Research Analyst & Writer to engage in composing research-based analytical papers, policy/white papers, and articles on a wide variety of ESG and other topics. This is an exciting position for someone looking to have real-world impact by advancing effective thought leadership and policy recommendations. The person in this position will coordinate and steer a variety of research projects, working closely with teammates within Public Policy and ESG as well as across the entire enterprise. You will gain and apply topic-specific knowledge in a wide variety of areas such as ESG, consumer finance, small businesses, housing finance, and financial markets.
Primary Responsibilities/Activities
Conduct in-depth, high-quality public policy research to create original cutting-edge research reports and policy papers using anonymized internal data alone or in combination with existing publicly-available data that adds to the public discourse.
Provide thought leadership by writing and publishing reports, commentaries, articles, and policy analysis to promote overall objectives and research findings.
Formulate and develop ideas for research projects by working with internal stakeholders to enhance research and refine proposals into affirmative public policy positions.
Synthesize large amounts of information, perform qualitative/quantitative data analysis, and report results.
Communicate analytical insights and be directly involved in the research process.
Daily exposure to emerging and evolving policy areas and assignments.
Opportunity to gain further expertise in specific policy matters through attending meetings, monitoring hearings, and completing projects that are integral to further Bank of America’s position.
Reports to the Public Policy Executive for Policy Analysis & Insights.
Critical Competencies
Exceptionally strong writer with experience in composing research-based analytical papers, policy papers, and articles on a wide variety of ESG and/or other topics.
Ability to synthesize complex ideas into simple straightforward language and communicate clearly and succinctly.
Must possess strong communication skills including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
Skills Requirements/Qualifications
Policy oriented. The candidate will need to develop policy ideas and understand the economic, environmental, equity, and political implications of policy proposals.
Superb organizational and project coordination skills. The position requires experience coordinating complex, short- and long-term projects that involve multiple colleagues. The candidate must balance multiple projects and deadlines.
Highly motivated self-starter. Self-starter with proven project management experience and ability to work on projects simultaneously. Comfort with uncertainty and an entrepreneurial working context; flexibility to take on new roles and responsibilities as the role evolves. Work collaboratively and proactively with business units, local market leadership, Communications, Compliance, Legal, Public Policy colleagues, and other internal partners.
Quick learner. The analyst will do work related to multiple economic sectors and types of policies and will need to quickly learn policy details, data sources, and analysis methods.
Experience in relevant issues and industries including policy, advocacy, research, sustainability, social impact, or corporate responsibility.
Ability to translate economic research into implications for policy makers and other decision makers.
Navigate complex research projects, absorb and synthesize large amounts of information, confidently draw conclusions from your research, and put them into clear policy recommendations.
Prior experience working in an area related to government affairs, legislation, regulations or public policy. As a team player, work well with internal partners and operate effectively within bank policies, corporate processes, and a results-oriented team environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and adept at supporting the needs of key internal stakeholders or partnering with teammates on projects.
Demonstrates strong organizational and time management abilities with the ability to successfully multi-task and make accurate decisions under short time deadlines and with minimal supervision.
