    Summary of Position with General Responsibilities:

    This position leads the calibration and metrology laboratory. Applies measurement science, mathematics, and physics to develop, document,
    and maintain calibration systems, procedures, and methods for electrical, dimensional, optical, physical, mechanical, environmental and/or
    chemical inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM & TE) based on analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy and precision
    requirements. Evaluates new calibration methods and procedures. Uses statistics to analyze measurement standards and processes.
    Recommends calibration standards and IM & TE. Maintain calibration laboratory and/or departmental accreditation and quality systems.
    Perform laboratory administration and management.
    Operates and maintains various measuring systems including vision systems and coordinate measuring machines. Understand, improve, and
    control various measurement methods to support production and development of new products. This position provides collaborative support
    to quality leadership to assure compliance with all BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound
    measurement system principles and development and validation of metrology methods. Works closely with quality, engineering, operations,
    suppliers, and other BD personnel.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Develops measurement procedures for new product components, including but not limited to programming of vision and coordinate measuring systems for inspection purposes.

    • Supports manufacturing/operations by providing precision measurements needed for investigation or production of saleable product.

    • Sets standards for consistent measurement of routine parts and develops any associated procedures.

    • Designs measurement fixtures.

    • Authors and executes validations of software driven measurement systems.

    • Authors and executes Test Method Validation.

    • Conducts R & R studies.

    • Analyzes measurement data/summarizes and writes reports.

    • Transfers measurement procedures to appropriate group.

    • Works to enhance good molding, measurement, and laboratory practices.

    • Functions as a subject matter expert for measuring systems.

    • Manages internal and external calibration activities.

    • Determines and maintains proper calibration frequency for all equipment.

    • Provides support for any investigations related to measuring systems or calibration.

    • Provides CAPA support as needed for any measurement related CAPA activities.

    • Stays informed on measurement systems analysis principles focused on compliance to worldwide regulations and corporate policies with respect to medical devices.

    • Supports calibration equipment purchasing and maintenance.

    • Complies with all local, state, federal, and safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

    • Complies with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Applicable Science or Engineering field preferred or Equivalent Experience, required.

    Experience:

    • 3+ years related experience, required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Demonstrated ability to lead direct and influence people.

    • Understanding of 21CFR820, ISO 13485, ISO 17025 and 10012

    • Strong understanding of Validation processes.

    • Self-Directed

    • Knowledge of Statistical Methods and Problem-Solving Methodologies

    • Audit Experience

    • Must be able to speak, read and write English

    • Computer skills (SAP, Excel, PowerPoint Word preferred) – intermediate.

    Supervision:

    • No supervision of associates initially.

    Work Environment (if applicable):

    • Indoor heated and cooled environment.

    • High speed manufacturing environment. Must remain alert and focused.

    • May have intermittent exposure to chemicals.

    • When on the production floor, noise is a constant distraction and earplugs must be worn.

    • Safety glasses and safety shoes must be worn when in required areas.

    • Degree of exposure to dust, dirt, heat, fumes, noise, vibration and chemicals.

    • Some physical exertion, including lifting, may be required.

    Other Functions (responsibilities):
