    Position summary

    and scientists who integrate tissue-based data into clinical insights that enable the delivery of therapies to the patients most likely to benefit from them. The Associate Director will work closely with other members of this team and with partners within diagnostic sciences, digital pathology and drug discovery and development teams to ensure that strategies for the treatment and cure of disease are based on accurate analysis of pathogenetic mechanisms.

    The primary focus of this role is oversight of the design, development and clinical implementation of translational tissue-based biomarker assays. This includes oversight of assay development and data generation both internally and with external vendors to ensure the quality and reliability of data supporting BMS programs.

    The successful candidate will be skilled in the integration of IHC data with data from other sources (https://e.g. molecular genetic data, flow cytometry, proteomic data, clinical data, etc.) and will contribute to the assessment and implementation of novel analytic approaches involving digital image analysis, deep learning and other emerging technologies critical to the continued scientific leadership of BMS. The successful candidate will also provide pathology subject matter expertise to clinical trial teams spanning early to late-stage development, and will have opportunities to engage with key academic partners on BMS supported research studies.

    Qualifications

    • MD or DVM, or their foreign equivalents, and board certification in anatomic pathology
    • In addition to an MD or DVM, an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Biological Sciences or related Biomedical fields is preferred, as is a clear demonstration of high-quality scholarly productivity in a relevant field of biomedical research
    • Extensive knowledge of IHC principles and instrumentation
    • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
    • Experience in monoplex and multiplex IHC (brightfield and fluorescence-based) assay development and IHC stains in tissues
    • Experience with in-situ nucleic acid hybridization (RNA/DNA) studies on tissue samples is a plus, as is a working knowledge of basic histomorphology and pathology
    • Prior experience working in the fields of oncology, immuno-oncology and immune-related disease pathogenesis is preferred
    • Prior experience working in a regulated laboratory setting (CAP/CLIA or other GxP environment) is highly desirable
    • Experience with lab information management system implementation and validation is a plus
    • Experience with digital image analysis (HALO, ImageJ, Visiopharm, Inform, etc.) of whole-slide histologic and immunohistochemical sections is highly desirable
    • Experience in managing people, and a demonstrated ability to drive team achievement is preferred
    • Self-motivated and eager to learn new skills and technologies
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to clearly communicate scientific objectives and project results are required.
