The Boeing Research & Technology organization is hiring an Associate Materials, Process, and Physics Engineer for lab operations and special projects for the Interiors and Flammability Labs located in Seattle and Everett, Washington.
This is a diverse team of subject matter experts that apply an understanding of materials and processes to evaluate parts, materials, and processes through research and testing to ensure safety, reliability, and adherence to requirements and specifications throughout the product lifecycle.
The team supports airplane production with quality assurance testing, airplane deliveries with flammability certification testing, and engineering research and development.
Assists with definition of requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of Boeing products
Drafts engineering specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of materials, parts and processes
Assists in evaluation of emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
Assists with development and qualification of new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
Performs routine tests and audits to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
Conducts routine analysis to determine performance or reasons for failures of tools, materials, parts or processes
Assists in implementing corrective and preventive actions
Develops computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements
Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas
Works safely in a laboratory and maintains a clean, safe, and compliant laboratory environment
Follows laboratory standard operating procedures
Works under general supervision, no instructions needed for routine work
This position allows some telecommuting; however onsite work will be required at one of the listed location options.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
Experience with project management
Experience working in a laboratory environment
2+ years of engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Bachelor's degree or higher in materials engineering or chemical engineering
Experience performing testing to standards, and providing laboratory service to customers
1+ years of experience conducting test in a lab or production environment
Experience with Federal Aviation Regulations 25.853 and Appendix F test methods
Experience with Minitab or other statistical software
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
