Boeing Defense, Space, & Security (BDS) is seeking an Experienced Aerodynamics Engineer (Level 3) to join the Flight Technology Group as part of the Vertical Lift Division located in sunny Mesa, Arizona. We participate in all phases of the design, test, and support of (but not limited to) development rotorcraft (such as FLRAA), modernized Apache AH-64E, and the AH-6 helicopter. The ideal candidate will support the design and analysis of flight vehicle aerodynamics and flight performance to ensure requirements are met.
Position Responsibilities:
Performs aerodynamic and flight performance analysis of rotor systems for Boeing Rotorcraft. Analysis activities include developing and conducting complex aerodynamic analyses, e.g. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
Develops flight test and instrumentation plans, supports ground and flight testing, reduces and analyzes test data, and prepares test reports.
Works closely with design engineering Teams for the development of new/improved hardware components and to resolve design and fielding issues
Assists in multi-disciplinary design studies and test activities
Supports compliance activities with regulatory authorities and internal and external customers. Supports the evaluation of analyses and test results to determine that compliance requirements are met.
Generates technical reports and engineering products to customers and airworthiness authorities
Ensures First-Time Quality of team’s engineering products through peer reviews and frequent communication with team.
Assists in training less experienced personnel.
Communicates technical approaches, results, and recommendations to engineering teams, program leadership, and customers through oral presentations and technical writing.
Works under general supervision.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. _(_An interim and/or final U.S.
Secret Clearance Post-Start is require.)
The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Doctorate in Engineering, with Aerodynamics emphasis or Masters in Engineering with at least 3 years experience or Bachelor’s Degree with at least 5 years experience.
Experience in rotorcraft engineering, rotor aerodynamics, and rotorcraft flight performance.
Experience in advanced aerodynamic design, analysis, testing, and reporting.
Experience and proficiency using MATLAB, Excel, and other data manipulation tools.
Experience and proficiency in scientific computing, programming, and scripting using FORTRAN, Python, C++, or other computing languages.
Proficiency in technical communication, including written reports and documents, oral communication, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience performing analysis with CFD codes such as OVERFLOW, HELIOS, and FLUENT
Experience with wind tunnel or flight testing of aircraft designs, including test planning, coordination, execution, and data reduction
Experience with FORTRAN, Linux/Unix
Experience utilizing rotorcraft analysis codes, e.g., CAMRADII, RCAS, CHARM, etc.
Proficiency in application of Multi-Disciplinary Design and Optimization tools, e.g. ModelCenter
Experience planning and conducting multi-disciplinary design studies for aerospace systems
Experience with flight simulation model development
Knowledge of structural dynamics with emphasis on rotor blade structures
Knowledge of acoustics analysis and testing
Experience at an Aerospace company or Government Lab is desired
Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (Master +3 years' experience or PhD). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
