The Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), Bombers and Fighters Division, is seeking an Experience Structural Design Engineer (Level 3) to join the 777x Commercial Aircraft Program team located in Berkeley, MO.
The selected candidate will have good knowledge of wing design practices to support the wing moveable trailing edges (metallic and/or composite) components: configuration development, validating and verifying design requirements, production support (sustainment). As a structural design engineer you will be part of an Integrated Product Team (IPT) and must have the ability to effectively communicate and work under general supervision provided by senior lead engineers and management. Our engineers work closely with many other technical disciplines and organizations to integrate solutions to complex engineering problems.
Develops, integrates and documents structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
Develops, maintains and modifies structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
Performs, integrates analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
Works under general direction.
This position currently allows hybrid-telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some days of work per week onsite in Berkley, MO. It is expected that the position will eventually return to full-time on-site at some point in the future.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience)
Bachelors of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry.
5+ years of experience in aircraft structures engineering
5+ years of experience use engineering design tools such as CATIA, ENVOVIA, and/or PDM.
5+ years of experience with manufacturing of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) laminated composite structures
Experience with mentoring, coaching, guiding, and leading teams of junior and peer engineers
5+ years of experience with structural design or the design of mechanical sub-systems or components
5+ years of experience in aircraft structure, materials and properties, design criteria and release processes
5+ years of experience designing primary/secondary structural components
Experience supporting production line (sustainment).
Wing structural component design engineering Commercial Airplanes;
7+ years of experience with 3D modeling (CATIA Composite Workbench)
Demonstrates good problem solving skills and critical thinking;
Working knowledge of standard business software (MS Office Suite);
Ability to use a variety of media to clearly convey information and ideas to a variety of audiences;
Demonstrated interest in continuous personal learning and development.
Typical Education & Experience
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
