Job Description
At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. From the seabed to outer space, you can contribute to work that matters with a company where diversity, equity and inclusion are shared values. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.
The Specialty Materials Integration (SMI) group is looking for a Mid-Level Materials & Processes Engineer (Level 3) to join our team in Kent, Washington.
Materials and Process Engineering (M&P) - About Us
SMI is a section of Materials & Manufacturing Technology, all within Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T). BR&T’s scope of work spans initial concept to feasibility/development to production implementation and support. Customers include all other divisions of Boeing, US DoD (Department of Defense), NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and other organizations.
SMI is a microcosm of BR&T but with higher focus on concept generation, feasibility and technology development and maturation. We provide breadth and depth of knowledge and capabilities to help internal and external customers: with efforts spanning “clean sheet” design to correcting existing problems; to win contracts; to succeed.
Recent and on-going projects in SMI cover a wide range of interesting topics, including femtosecond and nanosecond laser processing of materials, an autonomous air-dropped amphibious vehicle, robotically-driven composite parts fabrication, UV-based sanitation systems for public transport, innovative missiles, specialty coatings and appliques, lightweight transparent armor, photolithography and program development/support.
SMI has earned a reputation within Boeing as a go-to organization for fast development of innovative materials and processes. Our hands-on approach to development is enabled by our Advanced Materials, Advanced Development and Laser laboratories. Engineers work side-by-side with experienced and capable technicians in these labs to create a broad range of new products and capabilities, like those noted above. Directly resulting from this collaboration, over the last 7 years SMI teammates submitted 230 Invention Disclosures and were award 189 patents. We welcome and foster new ideas - bring us yours!
With our variety of work, you won’t be bored!
