Boston Scientific is seeking a highly motivated mechanical engineer to work in a biotechnology company. This R&D Engineer II will be an extended team member in the integration and sustainment of complex technology in our Interventional Oncology business.
At Boston Scientific, our products and technologies are used to diagnose or treat a wide range of medical conditions. We continue to innovate in key areas and are extending our innovations into new geographies and high-growth adjacency markets. In Interventional Oncology (IO) we design, develop, produce, and sustain technologies for treating cancer, in addition to supporting evolving regulatory and standard requirements around product design. We provide a number of solutions to patients that include embolization technologies, thermal ablation systems, drainage catheters, microcatheters, guidewires, microspheres, and coils. We have a robust product line and pipeline, and we will continue to make an investment in Interventional Oncology treatments.
Key Responsibilities
- Fully participates in and successfully contributes to project teams typically including the following activities: product design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process capability studies, research investigations (animal and clinical studies), report preparation, and process/test documentation.
- Works independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet timelines.
- Designs and coordinates standard engineering tests and experiments.
- Designs, procures, and fabricates tooling and fixtures.
- Performs troubleshooting on new products/process problems as related to design, material, or process.
- Summarizes, analyzes, and draws conclusions from complex test results.
- Prepares standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community.
- Responsible for engineering documentation.
- Invents/ creates concepts and designs for new products/processes, and submits idea disclosures.
- May train and/or provide work direction to technicians.
- Works cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing to ensure project success.
- Demonstrates PDP/TDP system knowledge through delivery of high quality deliverables.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
BS Degree with 2+ years’ experience or MS Degree
Medical device design and or process experience preferred.
- Desire for leadership with traits of being an independent thinker and self-starter
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a creative unbiased approach to problem solving to be able to troubleshoot problems as related to design, material or process
- Solid lab experience to develop fixtures, test equipment, and test methods.
- SolidWorks proficiency
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fundamental understanding of design controls and risk management within the medical device industry
- Solid statistical analysis knowledge
- Effective communications skills to support cross-functional projects
- Leads design change assessment to ensure the proposed changes are systematically and thoroughly analyzed to verify that the design intent is still met.
- Quick learner to build disease state knowledge
- Ability to operate a lathe and other machine shop tools
