Senior R&D Reliability Engineer
The Rhythm Management R&D Reliability Engineer leads or supports engineering evaluations and analyses for concepts and products in development and commercial product in areas including, but not limited to 1) use environment characterization, 2) failure modes and mechanisms identification, 3) simulation and analyses creation, 4) test method and requirements development, 5) design guideline development, and/or 6) knowledge capture. This individual will collaborate and partner with Research & Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Marketing, Medical Safety, and Regulatory to achieve optimal results. The Reliability Engineer will support the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) and Electrophysiology (EP) divisions, while also supporting other divisions of Boston Scientific.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support product development activities to characterize product quality/reliability
- Design, develop, and implement new or improved product requirements and/or test methods to accurately characterize product performance (or component/material performance) when exposed to representative or extreme use environments and conditions.
- Support commercial product issue root cause investigations and product development knowledge gap closure
- Active participant/owner in/of Specifications/Requirements, Test Method Validation, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, Design Verification, Design Validation, and/or Design Review
- Author test protocols, coordinate/execute testing, conduct data analysis, and/or author engineering reports
- Execute material characterization providing data for use with FEA tools or other analyses
- Execute Design Margin / Derating studies supporting commercial product issue root cause investigation and informing product development
- Design, develop, and maintain test systems, apparatuses, and fixturing
- Design, develop, and maintain LabView based DAQ and analysis applications
- Direct and mentor support personnel
What we’re looking for in you:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Biomedical Engineering (or equivalent) with 3-5+ years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Experience in design and build of test equipment hardware and test fixtures to be used for material, component, or product testing
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of design
- Applies engineering and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems
- Demonstrated written communication, verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Strong analytical ability, troubleshooting skills, and problem-solving skills, where problems are unusual and difficult
- Ability to define test requirements, develop tests, perform testing, analyze test data, and document test data and analysis
- Working knowledge of commonly used test instruments and reliability test methods (e.g. tensile testers, environmental chambers, instrumentation, control electronics, and DAQ equipment)
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as scientific and technical journals, instructions and reports
- Self-motivated and capable of working under limited supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Biomedical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Exemplifies high performance expectations, proactively influences the organization in positive directions, and inspires engagement and commitment from others to achieve common goals
- Demonstrated ability to effectively present complicated technical information to small and large audiences, from peers to senior leadership, with varying levels of technical expertise
- Experience developing new test methods. Strong experimentalist skills with proven ability to develop and document novel approaches to non-standard test methods.
- Experience in LabView software development, implementation, and troubleshooting for automated test and DAQ systems
- Experience with Solidworks
- Experience with statistical analysis tools used during the design, evaluation, and characterization of test methods and equipment (e.g. Design Expert, MINITAB, Weibull++, and ALTA)
- Experience with FEA tools
- Regulated industry experience
