Carrier Fire & Security, the world’s largest manufacturer of fire safety products, is seeking a Shipping and Receiving Manager for its Kidde Fire Systems business in Ashland, MA! Kidde Fire Systems provides fire suppression solutions that protect people and property from the effects of fire. For over 100 years, industry leaders and the military have relied on Kidde Fire Systems to deliver outstanding fire detection and suppression for their mission-critical applications.

The Shipping and Receiving Manager will oversee the shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations. This role will partner with other business functions to strategize and implement process changes to streamline the current shipping and receiving process while aligning the process to meet Operational needs. The Shipping and Receiving Manager will use the On-Time Delivery and Efficiency metrics as a key driver for success. A continuous improvement mindset and strategic vision for cost reduction initiatives will be required. This role will also play an integral role in aligning and driving the company culture.

This position reports directly to the Operations Manager, collaborating with the full spectrum of Kidde Fenwal leaders, including Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, and Engineering.

Specific responsibilities for this position include:

  • Analyze ERP data and create necessary reporting to track the flow of materials and customer orders.

  • Ensure department training and compliance with trade and transportation regulations.

  • Ensure yearly DOT, IATA, and IMDG certification requirements are met. Review existing DOT and Trade Compliance policies for newly updated regulations.

  • Oversee BOL, Dangerous Goods, weights, and dimensions document accuracy per regulations.

  • Oversee hazardous material documents for accuracy per regulations.

  • Oversee UN numbers and descriptions for accuracy per regulations.

  • Interface with IT and outside contractors to ensure support for software and hardware operating systems and timely response to problems. Ensure sufficient documentation of operating instructions for all systems.

  • Coordinate communication with the quality department and implement product or order “stop shipment” and “release shipment” directives.

  • Supervise cycle counting activities.

  • Assist in processing damaged and lost freight claims.

  • Review freight invoices for accuracy and potential savings.

  • Implement improvements to the shipping operating system and/or process.

Desired Skillsets:

  • Ability to organize daily activities and to make quick decisions to support a fast-paced process-oriented operation.

  • Ability to be multi-functional in a stop-and-go operation.

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.

  • Ability to adhere to challenging time constraints within a team environment.

  • Knowledge of hazardous material (DOT/HAZMAT) regulations.

  • Strong analytical skills and use of Excel to drive improvements 

Required Experience: 

  • BA/BS degree with 3+ years of relevant work experience or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree

  • 3+ years of experience in a Medium Industrial Warehouse or Transportation environment
