Founded in 1876, the beautiful stone cellar and grounds in Healdsburg have been a Sonoma County fixture for over 140 years.  Simi Winery specializes in the production of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir and has a rich history in crafting quality wines year over year.

Position Summary

We are looking for a Harvest temporary employee who will gain experience in both Lab Sampling/Weighmaster. Our ideal candidate has a desire to participate in hands-on learning in the wine industry during Harvest 2023.  The employee’s time will be split between the two departments and will be responsible for working on special projects.

This position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible. This is a temporary assignment, generally between August through November. Schedules are determined on an as-needed basis to keep up with grape processing. This may include weekend work and overtime.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

Lab

• Learn and follow all laboratory work instructions and safety procedures.

• Perform accurate routine and advanced chemical and physical analysis on wines, juices, concentrates, and other company products.

• Collect samples from tanks and barrels, and prepare samples for analysis.

• Prepare reagents and standard solutions.

• Contribute to producing quality products by completing assignments in a safe, efficient, and valuable manner.

• Maintain lab cleanliness and a safe, sanitary working environment.

• Compliance with all Company policies and procedures.

Weighmaster

• Under limited supervision, weighs trucks, enters data into a computerized scale, and fills out related paperwork. 
• Works closely with wine tracking and production staff for processing trucks and tankers in and out of the facility according to crush schedule and work orders.
• Operates commercial truck scale to determine and verify the amounts of grapes, bulk wine, and winery-related products and issues certificates attesting to the amount of such products. 
• Responsible for processing weight tickets and vineyard field tags of inbound and outbound trucks during harvest.
• Transcribes weight certificates into a computer and fills out miscellaneous documents relating to truck shipments.
• Assures that commercial transactions based on quantities certified on a Weighmaster certificate are accurate.
• Additional duties may include filing and data entry, and possibly light cellar work/cleaning.
• Responsible for compliance with CBI sustainability policies and practices which are economically viable, socially acceptable, and environmentally sound.  This is done by supporting programs at each location for conservation, energy efficiency, and recycling, which are critical for our operations to achieve tangible environmental results.
• Follow safe operating procedures and support safety programs and policies to safeguard personal safety, company property, environmental, and team member’s safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED
• 0-2 years’ experience
• Must be available to work overtime and weekends when required
• Good computer skills
• Basic writing and math skills

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

The salary range for this role is:

$19.00 - $21.00 an hour

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.
