We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Area Manager to lead and grow our Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA) operations in Eastern Kentucky. This leader will have broad ownership of the asphalt business-overseeing plant operations, production, maintenance, quality, budgeting, and people development-while serving as a key partner to construction, sales, and senior leadership.

If you thrive in a hands-on leadership role, enjoy building strong teams, and take pride in running a business the right way-safely, efficiently, and profitably-this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact in a stable, well-established organization.
    Why This Role Is Different

    • Real ownership - Full responsibility for operational and financial performance, not just oversight
    • People-first leadership - Lead experienced teams while developing the next generation
    • Long-term stability - Essential materials, strong backlog, and long-standing regional presence
    • Strategic + hands-on - Balance big-picture planning with day-to-day operational decision-making
    • Community impact - Support infrastructure projects that matter locally and regionally

    What You'll Do

    Run the Business

    • Own the annual operating budget, forecasting, and financial performance for the asphalt operation.

    • Set and drive key performance targets that improve safety, productivity, quality, and profitability.

    • Lead capital planning efforts, including equipment upgrades and long-term facility improvements.

    Lead Operations

    • Oversee all Hot-Mix Asphalt plant operations, maintenance, quality control, and supporting transportation.

    • Partner with plant managers and maintenance teams on production efficiency, reliability, and plant performance.

    • Coordinate production schedules with construction teams to meet customer demand and maximize capacity.

    • Build strong vendor relationships for raw materials, equipment, and maintenance services.

    Champion Safety & Compliance

    • Lead a culture where safety is non-negotiable and visible every day.

    • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, MSHA, environmental regulations, and local requirements.

    • Work closely with safety and field teams to reduce risk and continuously improve safety processes.

    Develop People

    • Lead, coach, and develop salaried and hourly team members.

    • Drive performance management, workforce planning, and succession planning.

    • Build engagement through clear expectations, accountability, and recognition.

    • Address employee concerns with fairness, consistency, and respect.

    Build Relationships

    • Support internal and external sales efforts through demand forecasting and operational alignment.
    • Strengthen relationships with customers, vendors, and community partners.
    • Represent the asphalt business in management meetings and cross‑functional discussions.

    What We're Looking For

    Experience & Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field
(or equivalent combination of education and experience)

    • 10+ years of experience in asphalt operations, construction, or a closely related industry

    • 5+ years of leadership or supervisory experience

    • Working knowledge of asphalt plant operations and basic plant mechanics

    • Budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning experience

    Leadership & Skill Set

    • Proven leader with a track record of improving performance and profitability
    • Strong financial and analytical mindset; makes fact-based decisions
    • Strategic thinker who also enjoys hands-on operational involvement
    • Entrepreneurial, business-owner mentality
    • Excellent communication skills across all levels-field, plant, and corporate
    • Highly organized, adaptable, and effective in fast-paced environments
    • Team-oriented, collaborative, and respected by hourly and salaried employees alike
    • Customer-focused with a commitment to quality and follow-through
    • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
