intendent acts as management liaison and provides client interface.
Salary ranges from $80k to $100k annually, based on experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
Primary Basic Duties - Safety
Knowing, understanding, communicating, and ensuring compliance with the company safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
Conduct Safety Walks when on job sites and identify needs and follow up for appropriate future training and/or disciplinary action with specific focus on field supervisor safety compliance
Actively participating in the safety/incident investigation, reporting, reviews, and disciplinary actions
Responsible for ensuring crews are trained and practice OSHA compliant trenching & excavation
Responsible for finding and hiring talented people to fill crews
Primary Basic Duties - Production
Project Oversight:
Works directly with field supervisors to establish strong accountability and
Ensure timely and effective notification to Project Manager and as appropriate, client, of changed conditions
Ensure timely and accurate completion and entry/submission of timecards (field logs) in B2W Track by all field supervisors
Receive and review foremen/superintendent daily diaries and other project documentation following up with individual coaching/mentoring as required.
Ensure projects are appropriately supplied and there are no deficiencies in field crew requirements
Regularly review project workplace production and work progress on all projects
Planning & Scheduling:
Promote and enforce planning, scheduling and forecasting of labor and equipment requirements on master schedules by foremen and superintendents including effective project work plans and 3-week scheduling
Ensure foremen and superintendents understand project scope, schedules, and budget and they communicate daily with PM and client as appropriate
Identify and act upon every opportunity to reduce labor and provide efficient crew designs to meet budgets
Ensure timely and accurate communication of labor and equipment requirements to dispatch
Work with field supervisors as necessary in meeting identified needs and deficiencies in the plan/schedule, overcoming work challenges, and communicating these to project teams
Quality Control:
Work with customers and agencies to ensure the quality of our work by providing superintendents and foremen leadership in the complete quality process
Oversee the execution of the work, including quality and production, by ensuring that crews work to job specifications and follow the contract documents through job site inspections both before and after work is completed and initiating timely resolutions to sub-standard actions or production. This includes follow-up to ensure daily updates of as-built drawings
Oversees the field supervisors in assurance that locates are established and maintained
Encourages and stresses a high level of consistent project housekeeping through foremen and superintendents
Management/Leadership:
Model appropriate behaviors, attitudes, and actions for field supervisors under direct supervision, including performance management for field supervisor accountability
Manage field supervisors, crews, and equipment as aligned with established project budgets assuring operations are always safe.
Work with field supervisors in assessing competency and capability of tradespersons; evaluating crew capability and ensuring the crew's meet required levels of quality through proactive performance management and, where applicable, disciplinary action
Support field supervisors in facilitating teamwork and harmony between all construction crews by promoting and fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude among all project crews
Perform other miscellaneous duties as required
Education & Experience
Experience in Management or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Competencies & Skills
Project Work
Has the functional and technical knowledge and skill sufficient to direct foremen, superintendents, laborers and operators to complete project work to company standards and above
Understands the business sufficiently to know how it works and how practices, policies, industry trends, and information impacts business success
Has the ability to solve problems and make complex decisions
Has at least 5 years of experience performing underground utility work
Operations
Strong ability to prioritize actions and decisions
Uses organizational resources effectively and efficiently in getting things done and can orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish organizational goals
Capable of delegating effectively, directing and developing direct reports and managing and measuring work to accomplish the greatest productivity
