sor coordinates and supervises quarry operations to ensure an adequate amount of raw material from the quarry is available to meet plant production needs. This position closely monitors the daily activities of quarry workers. The position exercises supervision over a medium amount of employees working in the quarry.
What you'll be contributing:
Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
Establishes, communicates, and assigns job responsibilities, goals, and performance standards for employees within supervisory responsibility. Evaluates job performance.
Supervises and monitors hauling operations to prepare particular types of rock for crushing. Also supervises drilling, blasting, and land stripping operations where applicable.
Ensures that all quarry activities are properly conducted and comply with all safety standards and regulations.
Conducts and/or participates in quarry department safety meetings and safety inspections of work areas.
Monitors production needs to ensure enough rock is available and ready for use in manufacturing.
Ensures that an appropriate amount of explosives is available for use when explosives are used in quarry operations.
Maintains specified records of quarry and mining activities.
Prepares reports and other specified paperwork as requested by management.
Inspects work sites to make sure proper clean-up procedures have been executed.
Cooperates with other department managers in coordinating production operations with the quarry operations to supply the needed amount of raw materials from the quarry.
Assists as needed in planning long-term quarry development goals including mining exploration.
Assists with the preparation of annual budgets and specifications on purchased equipment. Coordinates purchased material with plant needs.
Maintains awareness of current industry trends and practices by reading trade and industry magazines.
Schedules repairs and other maintenance with the maintenance department as needed. Orders and obtains parts and equipment.
Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To succeed in this position, you will need:
Minimum of a Vocational/Technical degree in geology, mining, engineering, or related field.
Minimum of 3 years in a quarry or mining environment.
Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory position.
Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
Proficient in English written, verbal communication, and listening skills
Ability to make decisions and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at a conclusion
Ability to make decisions and solve problems with high attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to perform, organize and prioritize work independently
Ability to lead/manage others
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects in parallel to the conclusion
Knowledge of quarry operations, including using quarry equipment and proper procedures for using explosives safely and effectively
Knowledge of MSHA safety regulations as well as state and federal mining laws.
Ability to make sound independent judgments regularly
Ability to work under general supervision with specified policies, practices, and objectives.
Ability to refer questionable items to supervisor for clarification.
