Summary:
The Shipping Supervisor coordinates shipping activities between the plant, railroad, sales department, customers, and other plants and terminals. This position oversees the blending of cement to meet specified requirements. The position services the computer system.
What you'll be contributing:
Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
Sets priorities and assigns and communicates job duties to employees directly and indirectly assigned to.
Supervises the performance of Bulk Loaders and Material Handlers.
Evaluates job performance and communicate job performance expectations.
Works closely with Ash Grove sales employees in scheduling cement shipments.
Coordinates efforts of the Production Shift Supervisor, shipping control employees, and terminal employees in filing customer orders.
Coordinates all rail car switching including cement, fly ash, and raw material railroad cars.
Supervises blending of cement that does not meet specified standards. Coordinates with lab personnel to ensure appropriate adjustments are made to meet the required standards.
Ensures that the requested type of cement is shipped to each customer promptly and efficiently.
Provides inventory reports once a week, more if required, to the Sales personnel and Production Manager.
Monitors rail yard for appropriate amount and placement of rail cars.
Coordinates with the Maintenance department for preventive and routine equipment maintenance and service.
Coordinates and supervises intra-plant cement transfers.
Assists and relieves the Utility Supervisor with receiving raw materials such as coal, coke, fly ash, gypsum, iron ore, clay, and clinker.
Plans and schedules silo fill and extraction schedules.
Creates work requests for maintenance on department equipment and tools and follows up on job execution.
Maintains shipping records on the computer regarding the type of cement, silo, and mode of transportation used for each shipment.
Reports necessary maintenance for the shipping computer system.
Trains shipping employees in the proper use of the shipping computer system
Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To succeed in this position, you will need:
High School Degree/GED is required
2 years of college or technical studies in a related subject is preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in administrative and supervisory positions preferably in the areas of production, shipping, or material handling operations at a cement or related industry.
Proficient in English written, verbal communication, and listening skills
Ability to perform, organize and prioritize work independently
Ability to make decisions and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at a conclusion
Proficient in problem-solving skills
Ability to lead/manage others
Ability to build strong customer relationships.
Ability to exhibit a strong customer-focus relationship that understands, displays, and maintains a "customer first" attitude and performance at all times.
Knowledge of plant operations
Knowledge of loading, shipping, and silo operations and functionality of equipment necessary to ship the specified type of product to the correct customer in a timely and efficient manner.
Knowledge of basic mechanics along with knowledge of all heavy equipment, tools, and other types of equipment used within the department.
Ability to use shipping computer systems.
Ability to make sound independent judgments regularly
Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
