We are looking for a talented Product Functional Test leader - Emission to join our team specializing in Engine Business for our Engine Business Segment in Charleston, SC.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • This laboratory test focused, developing leadership position designs or specifies test systems that allow operation of Cummins’ products in a laboratory environment for engineering evaluation to optimize our product designs. This position also involves the specification, design, implementation, validation and support of test systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems.
  • Obtains input and negotiates with lab leaders, test system suppliers, and construction contractors and delivers complex test systems or lab upgrades to lab leaders.
  • Uses systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of test equipment design standards, applicable safety regulations, test systems suppliers and make vs buy that impact test system efficiency, maintainability, safety, and total cost of operation.
  • Creates, manages, improves and applies processes such as test equipment design, maintenance and calibration and tools such as measurement systems analysis, 7 step problem solving, fault tree analysis, and process hazard analysis required to support the processes and enable high quality decision making.
  • Acts as global subject matter expert on specific test equipment, sub-systems or systems, providing guidance to less experienced engineers and leading global efforts to drive common processes and tools.
  • Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.
  • Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.
  • Coordinates and directs work of technical project teams, up to and including direct management of small to mid-sized teams.
  • Operates as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).
  • Coaches and mentors other engineers, project managers and cross-functional team members.
  • May also include academic or industry collaboration in a competency or discipline area.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Prior Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making and providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s). Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
  • Experience as a technical lead and be hands-on in dealing with technical issues to ensure timely completions of task on hand.
  • Experience engaging customer to understand current and future testing capability needed.
  • Experience with Design, procure, assemble, and commission needed hardware and Software.
  • Experience with coordinating with customers and TOPS to ensure timely execution of needed work
  • Experience collaborating with other tech center for best practices and strategic planning.
  • Product Function Test System Design - Interprets test equipment specifications from test standards or lab customer requirements; selects and integrates appropriate equipment, instrumentation and software to control boundary conditions and collect measurement data; assesses capability of the lab equipment against the requirements and support infrastructure.
  • Laboratory Equipment Safety - Evaluates hazards specific to laboratory test equipment that may result from fuels, kinetic energy, toxins, electrical or other risks in the test environment; analyzes risk factors and potential impacts to personnel and property; applies appropriate techniques or safeguards to mitigate risks; collaborates with various laboratory areas to understand risks within a facility or site.
  • Measurement Science - Analyzes measurement processes throughout the relevant traceability chain to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty relevant to the appropriate applied measurement science, “Metrology” e.g. Chemical, Dimensional, Electrical, Mechanical, Optical and Radiation and Physical.
  • Function Based Product Testing of "X" - Selects appropriate equipment and techniques to operate the product and record operational data in a hardware or software based testing environment most often required as part of a product verification or validation plan; evaluates quality and validity of measurement data; analyzes test results using accepted standards to characterize product capabilities in alignment with the requirements of the engineer responsible for making product decisions.
  • Systems Thinking - Defines the system of interest by drawing the boundaries, identifying its context within its environment, its interfaces, and that it has a lifecycle to aid in planning the problem statement, scope and deliverables ; analyzes linkages and interactions between elements that comprise the system of interest by using appropriate methods, models and integration of outcomes to understand the system, predict its behavior and devise modifications to it in order to produce the desired effects.
  • A college, university, or equivalent Bachelors degree or certification in an Engineering Technology area is required.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
