    Work you'll do

    • Act as lead power sector modeler for multiple energy account teams in the public sector practice, leading power sector analysis and forecasting work, specifically with PROMOD software

    • Work with government counterparts to define research needs, prepare and manage data inputs, tailor and run energy market modeling for different modeling scenarios, interpret, discuss, and present outputs

    • Lead power system modeling activities using industry-standard forecasting, production cost, and capacity expansion software (mainly PROMOD but potentially Aurora, PLEXOS, and others)

    • Undertake relevant generation planning, economic, price forecasting, and power market analyses

    • Prepare memos, briefs, presentations, or other materials that explain the outputs of the market simulations, how they are relevant to research priorities, and how to interpret those results and their potential applications

    • Work directly with junior practitioners to build their capacity on how to use market modeling software, including: designing and explaining modeling scenarios; developing key input considerations; constraints; operating conditions; typical issues, challenges, etc.

    • Lead workshops and/or training sessions with U.S. Government employees on the energy sector modeling software (primarily PROMOD but potentially Aurora, PLEXOS, and others) and how to utilize it for their technical needs

    Our team of financial modeling and valuation professionals includes financial advisors and economists from varied diverse backgrounds who together help our clients make better decisions using custom, tailored financial models. We make an impact by advising our clients on critical public issues in areas such as business case analysis, transaction execution, credit analysis, cash flow analysis, valuation and portfolio optimization.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Master's degree in power systems or electrical engineering, economics, mathematics, or another STEM field

    • 2-5 years of experience utilizing advanced energy modeling software and electric power sector industry models (i.e., PROMOD, Aurora, PLEXOS) to produce analyses, ideally at a professional services firm producing technical analyses for public and private sector clients

    • Strong mathematical, database, and advanced programing skills related to power system models; ability to learn technical topics quickly

    • Previous work leading trainings and/or teaching classes or sessions with energy market simulation software to more junior practitioners or those with less experience

    • Demonstrated experience producing data-driven, peer-reviewed work, studies, models, or analysis for technical audiences

    • Working knowledge of market operation, pricing, and regulatory policies in ERCOT, PJM, and other North American RTOs/ISOs

    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future

    • Travel up to 50%

    Preferred:

    • PhD a plus; vendor training on energy market modeling sector software preferred

    The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $84,700 to $128,000.

    You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
