JOB DESCRIPTION
We (Digital Member Experience team) are responsible for making Delta Dental of California's new Member Self Service and Provider Directory search experience delightful. We are looking for an Expert Software Engineer with impressive technical skills and excellent communication and collaboration skills to help us build and maintain our next generation Digital Experiences. Along with writing awesome code, you will be responsible for architecting, designing and building highly scalable rich consumer facing applications. You will use industry best practices and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams of product managers, architects, software engineers, test automation engineers and DevOps in an Agile setup.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead architectural design, system analysis, and programming activities on application software; this may often require independent research and study
Lead teams that develop high-quality and production-ready software by using best-practice data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and frameworks that are maintainable, scalable, resilient, and secure.
Champion writing highest quality code with utmost attention to scalability, security and performance and with an end-to-end mindset from conception to delivery and production support, owning specifications, quality, release deployments and monitoring of production health.
Produce complete, simple, and readable technical documentation for everything developed and create a team culture of creating/maintaining useful documentation.
Drive code-reviews, provide technical guidance and mentor software engineers.
Collaborate closely with Engineering leadership, Product Managers, Designers, QA and other teams and business units to define, prioritize, sequence and scope business and functional requirements and drive results
Scope effort, identify risks and clearly communicate trade-offs with team members and other stakeholders
Foresee and assess impact assessment of product (hardware, software) upgrades
Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing engineering projects
Support and collaborate with other Engineers through evaluation, design analysis, and development phases
Maintain knowledge, ensure competency and compliance with policies and procedures, to be the technical expert while collaborating with cross-functional teams
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
7+ years professional experience with BS/MS degree in Computer Science or related field.
5+ years of experience designing and developing secure consumer-facing responsive, accessible user experiences and interfaces for web applications.
Expert level knowledge of JavaScript programming.
Expert level knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, Responsive web design, Accessibility (WCAG 2.0 AA)
Experience with all phases of software development. You have been there and done it, multiple times
2+ years of extensive experience in CSS preprocessors like Sass or Less.
2+ years of experience building responsive Single Page Web Applications.
2+ years of extensive experience building production application with Node.js
2+ years of experience working with popular JavaScript tools and Frameworks (like Gulp/Webpack, ejs/handlebar, Angular.js, or React/Redux or Ember). ReactJS is highly preferred.
Advocate, advise, and implement - user-centered design, mobile first methodology, progressive enhancement and graceful degradation, accessibility, SEO, responsive design, and website performance.
Proficient with writing unit test case using any of the testing framework like Jest, Enzyme, Jasmine etc.
Experience with Linux environment & container technology such as docker.
Experience with Cloud (like Azure, AWS, GCP), Azure preferred.
Proficiency with Chrome and/or other browser Developer Tools.
Proficiency with Git/Github or other distributed version control systems.
Experience with Scrum, Agile Process
Good understanding of design principles to build a scalable application.
Nice to have:
Contributions to open-source projects.
Experience with Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.
Experience with logging tools like Splunk or ELK.
Experience with distributed cache like Redis.
Base Pay Information
The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity. $105,000 - $226,100
