Job Duties and Responsibilities

As a Site Reliability Engineer you will be responsible for bringing operational awareness to teams to help with architectural design, monitoring, and improving reliability and performance of applications in a complex, high-traffic streaming service providing video to customers 24/7. This will require an ability to learn, understand, and act in an environment with regularly changing technologies, and to communicate clearly with fellow team members, developers, third party vendors, and at times leadership. Duties will require admin work with existing Linux systems in on-prem and cloud locations, to perform administrative tasks with container orchestration systems and the applications running in them, and to work with dev teams to develop automation and deployment procedures to reduce toil.  Additional duties will also include working with teams to help maintain internal testing environments, which includes coordination with teams to ensure process compliance, quality of releases, correct documentation, etc.

Skills, Experience and Requirements

A Site Reliability Engineer needs to have the following qualifications:

• Experience with Linux systems administration (including virtualized systems in VMware) and Cloud Environments (AWS).
• Demonstrated communication skills, to facilitate communication between teams remotely located in a global organization.
• Basic familiarity with coding languages (especially Python or Go).
• An ability to participate in a 24x7 weekly call rotation, with a strong commitment to customer-impacting issue resolution and working with numerous teams to help with issue analysis.
• Familiarity with monitoring and data analysis tools to help teams set, maintain and tune SLOs and SLIs (emphasis with New Relic, Conviva, and CloudWatch).
• Experience working with containers and container orchestrators (especially Kubernetes).
• Experience with configuration management (Salt, Ansible) and source code hosting services (Gitlab).
• Understanding of DNS and http protocol.
• An ability and drive to continually improve and expand knowledge and skill sets.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor degree in Computer Sciences, Technology, or relevant experience.

• Should have at least 3+ years of relevant work experience.

• Familiarity with CDNs and caching (esp. varnish).

• Experience with messaging services (RabbitMQ, Kafka).

• A solid understanding of network fundamentals, at transport and application layers.

• Experience with networking devices (Arista, PaloAlto) and/or UCS servers.

Salary Range

Compensation: $65,800.00/Year - $108,100.00/Year
