Job Description

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a data visualizationinternfor its Graphics team based in New York City. 


The Graphics team creates visual journalism in a number of ways, but we mostly focus on data visualization for print and online.


The following attributes are considered mandatory for all applicants:

  • Sharp instincts for news and news values

  • A passion for visual journalism, evidenced by a portfolio showing examples of data visualizations, digital presentations or designs

  • A positive attitude and a drive to complete work quickly and efficiently on short deadlines

For static data visualization, experience in Adobe Illustrator is considered an asset. For interactive graphics, experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript and D3.js are all considered assets.

This is a paid summer internship. The summer internshipis 10 weeks long and generally starts in June, though the start date can be flexible in certain circumstances.

WSJ interns should be self-starters who understand the needs of the paper’s growing readership on various real-time, online, mobile and print platforms. Dedication to high journalism standards is a must. The screening process puts heavy emphasis on work samples and experience. Only finalists will be contacted.
