Responsibilities
The Senior Engineer is expected to serve as a technical lead, working on multiple work packages for projects within the Energy Systems and Power Electronics team. They are responsible for meeting the project schedule, scope, cost and technical targets for all efforts under their control.
Perform research on both AC and DC systems - power distribution system stability, controls and protection.
Drive multidisciplinary research projects in close collaboration with stake holders including business units, COE's, as well as external universities and industrial partners.
Record research findings and file patents, trade secrets and write technical reports
Qualifications:
Master's Degree Or Ph.D. in Electrical/Electronics/Systems/Controls Engineering / or equivalent technical field from accredited institutions.
Skills:
Master's Degree (4-7 years) or Ph.D. (0-4 years) experience in design and development of control algorithms: conceive and implement control strategies for power electronics (e.g. converters, inverters, motor drives) and power system equipment to ensure stable and efficient operation.
A robust understanding of power engineering principles and control theory is essential. The candidate should be well-versed in topics such as feedback control systems, digital control, power system stability and dynamics, electrical circuit theory. Knowledge of power electronics (devices, converters topologies, modulation techniques) and power system operation (generation, transmission, distribution fundamentals) is expected.
Modeling and Simulation: proficiency in developing high-fidelity simulation models of power electronic circuits and power systems using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD and PLECS. Ability to simulate system behavior (e.g. transient stability, harmonic performance), to predict outcomes and refine control logic before deployment.
Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing platforms (e.g., dSPACE, OPAL-RT).
Expertise in programming languages such as Python, C, and C++ for embedded systems and control logic implementation.
Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLC programming, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., MODBUS, DNP3, IEC 61850).
Knowledge of protective relays, power metering, and monitoring systems. Experience in a variety of power system protection, monitoring and control (FLISR, AMI, integrated Volt/VAR control, adaptive protection, etc.)
Experience with real-time control systems, grid integration of distributed energy resources (DERs), and smart grid technologies.
Possess strong business acumen and the ability to understand and formulate compelling value propositions and to understand and drive through value and adoption chain.
Proven track record for IP generation and publications in reputed peer-reviewed journals is desired.
Ability to apply Design for Six Sigma methodologies including QFD, DoE and reliability engineering in the course of their work. Green belt certification in DFSS or DMAIC is highly desired.
Experience in leading projects/ work packages with multiple stakeholders in matrix organization and strong project management experience is required.
