The Apple Mac Engineering Specialist is responsible for the administration and engineering of around 5,000 Mac endpoints with enterprise-scale technical experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructures. This includes engineering and support of our core applications including web browsers and productivity suites and defining the right hardware for the organization. The successful candidate will be considered a subject matter expert for all technical aspects of managing and configuring the Mac enterprise environment. This candidate will be comfortable providing solutions to technical issues, researching, and developing fresh solutions, and setting the right priorities and objectives to help drive the Modern Desktop strategy. Key Activities

    • Technical lead responsible for engineering and administering a 5,000 Apple Mac workstation environment. Work with the Managed Services supplier to guide a team of Apple engineers to design, develop, and maintain Apple Mac desktop solutions.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and align technical solutions with Apple's technical strategy.
    • Lead the development and implementation of technical solutions that are scalable, reliable, and secure.
    • Ensure that technical solutions meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
    • Identify and manage technical risks and issues and develop plans to mitigate them.
    • Communicate technical concepts and solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Manage relationships with third-party suppliers and service providers to ensure delivery of high-quality services that meet contractual obligations and SLAs (Service Level Agreements).
    • Act as a point of escalation for issues related to supplier performance and work with suppliers to resolve issues in a timely manner.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and hold suppliers accountable for meeting performance targets.
    • Continuously evaluate supplier performance to identify opportunities for improvement and cost optimization.
    • Work closely with internal teams to ensure that supplier services are integrated with internal systems and processes.
    • Provide oversight and direction for engineering and customization of the Mac OS (Operating System) image
    • Provide technical direction, standards, and best practices for application compatibility assessments and Application Packaging standards
    • Improve the user experience through automation scripting
    • Ensure all deployed systems and technologies are delivered in a way that ensures the best end-user working experience on the desktop
    • Perform advanced tier 3 troubleshooting of issues affecting client workstations and related systems
    • Implement desktop technology solutions that ensure consistency and standardization across the enterprise
    • Audit and review application configurations; provide detailed assessments of the current platform to support application packaging and distribution
    • Ensure engineering and operational best practices are met and identify areas of improvement to continually improve service quality
    • Develops the technical requirements, roadmaps, and configurations for Apple operating system platforms and defines and maintains the core application lifecycle
    • Researches, understand, tests, and integrates modern technology
    • Collaborates with business stakeholders and IT management on an ongoing basis to collect feedback to improve the core technology experience
    • Actively collaborates as a team member in a high-performance cross-functional work team environment, including plant and regional manufacturing technical resources, engineering, and IT
    • Acts as a leader to support and drive Apple standards adoption and implementation across the enterprise
    • Develop and maintain a supplier management framework, including policies, procedures, and metrics, to ensure that all suppliers are managed consistently and effectively.

    • Familiarity with Active Directory and Group Policy (GPO) administration

    • Extensive experience as an end-user computing engineer and administrator, a leader in defining and implementing technical solutions

    • Experience with desktop virtualization solutions such as Citrix or Windows Virtual Desktop

    • 10+ years of experience providing IT administration and engineering services within an Enterprise managed desktop environment

    • Familiar with the creation of best practices, IT standards and roadmaps Technical Skills and Qualifications

    • Expert-level understanding of the Apple OS operating system, including image management, OSD (operating system deployment), and Modern Endpoint Management

    • JAMF Pro:

      JAMF Pro certification for managing Apple devices including device enrollment, configuration, security management, software deployment, and inventory management

    • Apple Business Manager:

      to facilitate device enrollment, device management, app and book distribution, and Apple ID management

    • Apple Configurator:

      Deep understanding and practical knowledge of Apple Configurator to configure and manage large numbers of Apple devices, device provisioning, configuration, and app deployment and integration using JAMF or other management tools

    • Apple Remote Desktop to remotely manage and control Apple devices, remote screen sharing, software deployment, and remote assistance

    • Apple Deployment Programs:

      Facilitate deployment of Apple devices across the global enterprise. ADP includes Device Enrollment Program (DEP), and the Volume Purchase Program (VPP)

    • Experience working in an outsourced enterprise desktop management environment

    • Experience designing and implementing a range of End-User computing technologies in an enterprise setting
