Data Center Customer Operations Engineer (Structured Cabling Specialist)
Job Summary
The incumbent should possess a strong understanding of the job and be able to handle assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations. The focus will be on utilizing a substantial understanding of standard operating procedures. The role will support the overall team and contribute to the smooth operation of the facility.
Structured Cabling
Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber optic cables.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to structured cabling.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices for structured cabling.
Facility / Infrastructure Maintenance
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance checks on-site for facility components, including repairs, maintenance, installations, and inspections of facility systems. Support energy efficiency measures.
Monitor the Building Monitoring System (BMS) and resolve alarm issues that require judgment, while following standard operating procedures.
Operate and maintain plumbing, fire suppression, and safety systems.
Operate critical infrastructures under the supervision of more senior technical staff.
Work independently with minimal instruction on daily tasks, and receive general instructions on newly introduced assignments.
Vendor Support
Support the work approval process for service providers on maintenance work, including briefing at the start of work, monitoring work during the day/shift, and final review of completed work. Ensure vendor maintenance activities adhere to Equinix's standard operating procedures.
Collaborate with vendors to update technical files for plants and equipment.
Site Administration & Incident Support
Maintain site logs for permits, such as Maintenance Operation Protocol (MOPs) and scripts.
Identify Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) and make recommendations.
Respond to on-site incidents, including failures, problems, and delays.
Follow operating procedures to provide on-site administration support.
Work Orders & Additional Projects
Complete routine work requests and circuit installations.
Troubleshoot and maintain office equipment if necessary, and support problem-solving and repairs for auxiliary equipment and machines to minimize downtime.
Make minor changes to mechanical, electrical, and specialized systems as directed.
Participate in infrastructure projects.
Collaboration
Collaborate with others to resolve facility incidents.
Effectively collaborate within the department and provide mentorship to team members on general maintenance activities.
Communicate inventory needs to stakeholders to maintain optimal stock levels of critical parts and equipment.
Provide recommendations for infrastructure projects when necessary.
Qualifications
Typically requires a degree in engineering and 7+ years of equivalent work experience.
