This position will support the planning, execution, and reporting of drone flights for Eversource. This may include assisting in new procedures, testing, training, webinars, and conferences associated with having a safe and innovative drone department. This position requires familiarity with drone technology, innovation, and industry software. Specific duties include safety evaluations, flight planning, waiver submittals, utility inspections, maintenance planning and execution, procedure creation support, software implementation, and industry networking. This position may involve being outside in the elements, traversing by foot on uneven ground to structures or facilities which are inaccessible by vehicle, as well as traveling, when required.

Job Functions:

Support of Maintenance and Operations groups at Eversource Energy:

• Support for creation and implementation of innovative drone standards and best practices for comprehensive inspections using photography, LIDAR, Infrared, or any other form of information collection by drone
• Flight planning, obtaining waivers, flight execution including inspection if needed, and post flight documentation during blue sky days
• Beyond Visual Line of Sight flying may be required with required waivers in hand

Support of Emergency Response Procedures:

• Support for creation and implementation of innovative drone standards and best practices for Emergency Response using photography, LIDAR, Infrared, or any other form of information collection by drone
• Flight planning, obtaining waivers, flight execution including inspection if needed, and post flight documentation during Emergency Response
• Beyond Visual Line of Sight flying may be required with required waivers in hand

Support of Drone Use Across Eversource:

• Assist other organizations within Eversource with information and guidance regarding drone use.  These groups can include (but are not limited to): Project Management, Siting, Real Estate, Legal, Vegetation, Surveying, Construction, Media Relations
• Support for creation and implementation of innovative drone standards for each group
• Flight planning, obtaining waivers, flight execution including inspection if needed, and post flight documentation for groups across the enterprise
• Beyond Visual Line of Sight flying may be required with required waivers in hand

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:  

• Experience flying any drone platform manually, with ease
• Experience with a broad base of drone platforms and software
• Experience with remote aircraft design, building, and troubleshooting
• Familiarity with FAA rules and regulations regarding drone use is required, along with processes for obtaining FAA waivers is required
• Familiarity of Transmission and/or Distribution Lines is preferred
• Strong technical software skills, including video editing, is required
• Familiarity with technical inspections by drones is required
• Detail orientated and organized to help support safe flying
• Ability to remain calm and collected during high stress situations
• Punctual, presentable, and socially confident always when representing the company
• Willingness to seek help while in search of answers
• Passion for robotics
• Ability to walk for an extended time on uneven surface and to lift up to 50lbs from the ground is required
• Ability to see and hear a drone or oncoming traffic clearly, is required
• Understanding of Data Analytics and Data Processing

Education:      An Associate’s Degree or two years of applicable work experience along with a technical background in drone software, equipment, and drone photography.   Technical degree or certificate is preferred.

Experience:    Experience flying drones in a professional environment is required. Experience or knowledge in the inspections, construction or operations of the utility industry is preferred.

• 250+ total hours of RPIC experience is expected for Pilot Position

Licenses & Certifications:       A valid driver’s license and valid Part 107 certification in hand is required.
