POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology OR an associate's degree in electrical engineering or electrical technology OR formal education equivalent to an Associate's degree in math and science are required. Individuals must hold a valid motor vehicle license. Individuals will have to stand on-call assignments. Also desirable:
Strong knowledge of and experience with transmission protection devices such as or similar to carrier communication equipment, electro-mechanical and microprocessor relays, electrical protection principles and theories, electronic and computer-controlled systems and devices, computer networking techniques and methods, National Electrical and National Electrical Safety Codes, relay and control operational and safety procedures, designing testing systems and equipment, strong organizational skills, utilizing interpersonal skills to communicate with coworkers, supervisor, etc.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Test Assistant (Steps 1-4): This is a four-step progression that provides the experience and training for an incumbent to be eligible for advancement to Test
Specialist. The selected candidate will be slotted at the appropriate level based upon their education/experience. No experience is required for level
Project Test Specialist or Test Specialist. Primary duties of the Test Assistant include but are not limited to: performing the following tests - power factor insulation testing, breaker timing testing, analyzing and interpreting test results and presenting findings for review; basic protection relay testing; technical calculations for test applications. Individuals will also assist with annual transmission line telecommunications testing.
Test Specialist (Steps 1-4): A minimum of 2 years of related experience is required with a Bachelor's degree OR 4 years of related experience are required with an Associate’s degree of formal education as noted above. Individuals must have a working knowledge of substation equipment, an understanding of and ability to properly and safely test equipment, strong computer skills, and the ability to operate a variety of software programs related to computer-automated testing. Individual plans and performs construction testing, maintenance testing, operations investigations, defective equipment testing, and provides technical assistance services.
Project Test Specialist (Steps 1-2): Individuals must currently hold the title of Project Test Specialist or have held this title in the past. Individual acts as project and/or crew leader and/or carries out assignments requiring engineering-level expertise and extensive experience associated with planning and performing construction testing, maintenance testing, investigation of electrical operating equipment, defective equipment testing, and related technical assistance.
Bargaining unit employees with contractual rights to this position will be given first consideration.
