Position summary

Facebook is seeking a Building Automation Engineer with strong project management skills to support Global Standards within the Data Center Design team. In this role, you will support controls standardization from ideation through change management & stakeholder engagement processes, ultimately influencing and implementing decisions within the standards library for implementation globally. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates enabling innovation for the company. Building and operating data centers the "right" way from the day they go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity availability and capital conservatism. The data center design team approaches facility design from the chips on the server boards to the facility mechanical and electrical distribution systems which ensure and maximize efficiency of our compute infrastructure. This position is full-time. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a proven track record in cross-functional team management and a strong background in all aspects of Building Automation. A thorough understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, equipment and IP networking is strongly desired. This person shall be detail-oriented, possess strong organizational skills, and be a self-starter that can excel with little direction.

Building Automation Engineer, Global Standards & Equipment Standards Responsibilities:

  • Manage the global design and equipment design standards supporting the controls discipline, partnering with internal teams to develop global execution strategy, managing change life cycle, and integrating controls into the ecosystem of the design and equipment standards

  • Lead standardization in controls engineering quality approval, process control, product evaluation, vendor proposals, evaluate product reliability, automated testing and software

  • Responsible for evolving controls systems strategies & processes, including design, specifications, programming, control logic & sequences, simulation, testing, evaluation and integration, as well as vendor and commissioning oversight

  • Build strong global cross-functional partnerships

  • Assist in program (standards and equipment) health analysis

  • Travel to datacenter sites for engineering studies, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required

  • Travel to various equipment and bench testing as well as remotely located design working sessions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience with control system design, development and management on industrial or mission critical systems

  • 3+ years of experience with equipment commissioning, testing, or related activities

  • Experience with panel design and related updates

  • Experience with supply chain inputs (eg BOMs) in the procurement of BMS devices

  • Experience in the onboarding or introduction of new BMS vendor or consultants

  • Experience in developing and managing global programs

  • Experience in managing design/engineering consultants and vendors

  • Trouble shooting, problem-solving skills and experience providing solutions to complex projects under pressure

  • Project management skills

  • Collaboration skills

  • Organizational and communication skills

  • Certifications in various control systems

  • Knowledge of thermodynamics and psychometrics

  • Understanding of mechanical & electrical systems and schematics

  • Understanding of BACnet protocol to include IP, ETH and MS/TP

  • Understanding of Modbus protocol to include TCP, and RTU

  • Knowledge of Networking Server/Client Workstations

  • AutoCAD, Revit and VISIO experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in supporting a portfolio of projects across North America, Europe, or Asia

  • Knowledge of BAS DDC and PLC programming language

  • N+ certification

  • IT and server hardware background

  • DCIM understanding and working knowledge

  • Schneider Electric PLC/Unity Pro experience

  • Citect SCADA understanding and working knowledge

  • OPC UA understanding and working knowledge

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field
