We’re not just growing to build better internet experiences, we’re also building a welcoming place where people who want to make a difference can grow their careers. GFiber is an Alphabet company that brings Google Fiber and Google Fiber Webpass internet services to homes and businesses across the United States. Our growing, inclusive team is expanding as we connect more cities and people. Role Description At GFiber, our philosophy is build it, break it, and then rebuild it better. That thinking is at the core of how we approach testing at GFiber. Unlike roles with similar names at the other companies, Test Engineers at GFiber aren't manual testers -- you write scripts to automate testing and create tools so developers can test their own code. As a Test Engineer, you will navigate GFiber's massive codebase, identify weak spots, and constantly design better and creative ways to break software and identify potential problems. You'll have a huge impact on the quality of GFiber's growing suite of products and services. You will use your knowledge of testing and testability to influence better software design, promote proper engineering practice, bug prevention strategies, testability, accessibility, privacy, and other advanced quality concepts across products. At GFiber, you will be providing users with the fastest services possible while constantly trying to push the boundaries and limits. GFiber works to go the very last mile, providing fiber-optic Internet connections directly to users' homes. You'll be building one of the fastest networks in America so that users can experience the future of broadband because we know that your Internet connection can never be too fast enough. In this role, you'll: Lead the CPE QA team and be responsible for all aspects of testing and releasing networking products for GFiber. Define and develop test strategies for GFiber systems, networking devices and products. Develop and build automation framework including debugging/triaging automation failures. Work closely with the architecture team to evaluate/test and release the next generation networking products. (SME for QA) Work collaboratively with development teams in instrumenting their workflow to build a comprehensive picture of velocity, coverage, and quality. Collaborate across teams to improve quality and customer experience. Work cross functionally with Supply Chain/SRE/Field teams and third party vendors to triage and resolve field issues (e.g. firmware release, patches for field issues etc.) Identify and manage project testing priorities and challenges across releases, develop schedules and designs, oversee designs or work of several test engineers and/or projects. At a minimum we'd like you to have: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Networking or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 5 years of experience in testing, troubleshooting, automating networking devices especially CPE, networking related enterprise applications in QA Lead Capacity. 5 years of experience in Automation coding with Java or Python. Experience of WiFi standards and networking technologies as used in the CPE networking devices.  Experience in architecture and developing test infrastructure to support large scaled network solutions. It's preferred if you have: Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 10 years of experience in leading and testing/releasing network products in continuous delivery models. CPE device experience preferred with hardware/firmware/software stack testing.  5 years of automation infrastructure/framework design/development and troubleshooting experience. Experience with programming in Java or Python. 5 years of experience with testing and troubleshooting L2/L3 networking protocols (e.g. DHCP, TCP/UDP, BNG, AAA/Radius)  5 years of demonstrated experience in representing test engineering in Architecture/Design forums (e.g. SME for test). Demonstrated experience in working with third party vendors for evaluating/testing/troubleshooting networking devices and related peripherals (SFP/SFP+, Optics, ONTs, Extenders etc.) Experience in working with SRE/Field teams in replicating/triaging and resolving customer issues.
