    Job Description:

As an Application Engineer supporting a mission-critical Financial Services Software Modernization program for a state agency, you will bring your creativity to help us find simple solutions to complex problems. This position works under the general guidance of the IT Director, and in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, collaborative environment, and requires strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, strong critical thinking, complex problem solving, appropriate judgment, and decision-making skills. Work can be performed on-site in Rensselaer, NY or Remotely with some travel.

    The Application Engineer: 

    • Modernizes an enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software.
    • Designs, develops, troubleshoots, and analyzes advanced software programs
    • Develops advanced documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code
    • Prepares and installs solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming
    • Performs advanced systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.
    • Develops and/or integrates software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; and following the software development lifecycle
    • Implements and configures low-code and / No code platforms

    WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

    Required:

    • BA/BS or equivalent, 5+ years of experience.
    • Experience configuring Workflows and Business Rules using low code or no-code platforms like Salesforce.
    • Prior experience in Agile development environments
    • Ability to pass state security investigation.

    Preferred:

    • Experience with Fluxx grant management software.
    • Experience building browser-based applications that conform to Section 508 compliance is preferred.
    • Integration using Representational State Transfer (REST) Application Programming Interfaces
    • Prior experience with containerization and associated toolsets
    • Prior experience with relational databases, preferably Oracle and/or DB2
    • Experience working with any of the following: Ruby on Rails, MySQL, Elasticsearch, jQuery, React, Redis, Resque, Java, Play, Devops, AWS, RESTful APIs

    • Have the ability to handle demanding situations with clarity, focus and professionalism, and to respond quickly to quick turnaround taskers.
    • Ability to resolve issues with little oversight; ability to gather and analyze information skillfully and develop alternative solutions
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex topics to management and other stakeholders
    • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with customers and internal cross-functional teams
    • Ability to work independently as well as interact regularly with government and non-government stakeholders at multiple levels of authority
    • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to integrate information from multiple sources
    • Self-motivated, well-organized, and strict attention to detail
    • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully; develop alternative solutions; Critical thinking and creative problem solving
    • Ability to understand and manage customer expectations and software implementation methodology
    • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects at the same time, including the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple initiatives/deadlines autonomously and shift priorities as necessary

    The likely salary range for this position is $92,000 - $138,000, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
