Our work depends on a Data Engineer joining our team to support the CMS customer in the Maryland area.

At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a Data Engineer supporting a federal government customer, you will be trusted to perform ad hoc data engineering tasks and analysis

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Import new data sets into an existing search application.

  • Perform ad hoc data engineering and analysis.

  • Create new applications for analyzing, querying and displaying documents and property graphs.

  • Work with users to define their data requirements and to assist with ad hoc data analysis.

  • Troubleshoot complex problems and provide support for software systems and application issues.

  • Work alongside other engineers on the team to sustain and advance the organization’s capabilities

  • Evaluates the potential impact of data changes.

  • Frame and scale data problems to effectively analyze and find data solutions

  • Use automation and sophisticated software and programs to derive insights from data

  • Review and validate customer data as it is collected

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and strategies for solving data engineering problems

  • Verify data quality and assist in performing data cleaning activities

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.

  • A minimum of 2 years of in-depth data engineering experience.

  • Proven ability to work with both technical team members and non-technical users.

  • Expertise with SQL programming.

  • Hands on coding experience and or Python scripting

  • Experience in developing software applications through all stages, including requirements generation/gathering, data engineering (data extract/transform/load), web service implementation, and user interface

Desired Education and Experience

  • CMS or in the Health Care Industry experience

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical topics to management and non-technical audiences

  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to integrate information from multiple sources

  • Ability to work independently and interact regularly with government and non-government stakeholders at multiple levels of authority

  • Work effectively and efficiently as a team member in time-sensitive situations

  • Ability to deliver on multiple competing priorities with little supervision.

  • Two or more years of experience in data engineering, from the design of a common data format to the data pipelines that extract, transform, normalize and load the data

  • Two or more years of hands-on development with Java in a large application environment

  • Experience with Oracle/Postgres SQL databases

  • Experience working with various file formats like CSV, JSON, XML, or Parquet files

  • Experience with AWS Cloud
