    Position summary

    Job Description Summary

    The Kalaeloa Cogeneration Plant located in Kapolei, Hawaii is a Combined Cycle and Cogeneration Power Plant, owned by Kalaeloa Partners, L.P., operated and maintained by GE Gas Power Operations & Maintenance. This power plant provides production of approximately 208 megawatts of firm capacity net electrical energy to Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) as well as approximately a total hourly production of 120,000 pounds of steam at three pressure levels for sale to neighboring a refinery.

    As a Gas Power Plant Engineer Intern, we will prepare you for an exciting career, tackling one of the world’s toughest challenges of providing cleaner, more accessible energy.

    As a Plant Engineer Intern, you will:

    • Operate under supervision of the Plant Engineer while receiving technical training, mentorship, and coaching from world-class plant operators, department supervisors (Instrument control & electrical, Maintenance (outage), Business, Safety & Environmental), and the Plant Manager.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Analyze power plant operating performance and efficiency.  Automate data queries and reports where practical
    • Research options, technology, other, to improve plant operations, control systems, maintenance practice, etc.
    • Investigate plant systems for proper operation.
    • Identify potential improvement options and perform viability and cost analyses

    Location: Kapolei, Hawaii

    Relocation is not provided for this internship role.  Preferred candidates must be from the local area and/or attending a Hawaii University. 

    Employment Dates:

    Must be able to work for 10-12 months a minimum of 20 hours during the school semester up to 40+hours during the summer semester or as school schedule permits.    

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Working knowledge in Excel
    • Good Communication Skills
    • Critical reasoning

    Qualifications/Requirements

    • Must be currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program in an engineering discipline as listed below with a Junior (3rd year) or Senior (4th year) graduation standing.  
    • Following majors accepted: Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.
    • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (without rounding).  
    • Must be willing to take a drug test as part of the selection process 
    • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process 
    • Must be 18 years of age or older 
    • Must be able to develop and maintain good customer relationships 
    • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license 
    • Must be willing to work in geographical area specified by the business 
    • Must have the ability to work in the US for an unlimited amount of time without sponsorship
