The Lead Product Specialist – Data Librarian is an experienced level information technology professional who will maintain documentations and procedures to increase efficiency of data infrastructure. The work will Include supporting common data structure, lexicon, and methodology developed by the Data Architect to ensure the effective consumption of large amounts of structured and unstructured data that will be used for business analysis and business simulations. The Lead Product Specialist – Data Librarian will be the curator of the Knowledge Management system and work with users of the data management system, as well as external partners, to address issues related to the discovery, use, and stewardship of data.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively design an organization-wide data warehouse, data catalog, and data pipeline infrastructure
  • Maintain/improve data library systems for description, storage, discovery, and access to tabular, spatial, and text-corpus data
  • Support a common lexicon and effectively store data in the library/repository across business organizations
  • Set the foundational data requirements for effective data consumption and application
  • Evaluate data standards and best practices to ensure a scalable and interoperable data system
  • Identify data user requirements needs, preferences, objectives, and working methods; studying how users consume data content, including data categorization and labeling
  • Evaluate data usage patterns; studying user feedback; conducting retrospectives to Identify knowledge gap in the system
  • Assist engineers and scientists with data management plans, data sharing and long-term data stewardship options
  • Provide cross-functional support through instruction and consultation on the use of data
  • Contribute to Knowledge Management platform user training materials and conducting training on data management, documentation and etc.
  • Travel to include up to 25% domestic travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or related Information Technology field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience leading or establishing a data management or analytics program, knowledge management system or data services system

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or related field
  • Experience with the acquisition of datasets via web-scraping and APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and computational text analysis
  • Ability to build relational databases and create data models
  • Understanding of data visualization principles and tools
  • Strong knowledge of Python or R for data wrangling and other tasks
  • Experience improving research dissemination tactics in a matrixed organization
  • General understanding of power generation products and the energy industry
  • Clear thinker with an ability to focus on the “critical few” issues/priorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication, and presentation skills
  • Experience working cross-functionally in a global environment

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
