    Position summary

    Job Description Summary

    The Nuclear Licensing Specialist, Canadian Regulatory Affairs, will lead the completion of various regulatory work scopes in Canada, including new reactor licensing, reload licensing, customer plant support on nuclear methods, and working with Canadian GEH SMR Technologies and U.S. GEH / GNF Engineering and Regulatory Affairs teams on major projects.

    (This position requires all employees to work a rotating schedule i.e. in the office 3 days on and 2 days off or similar and will require 15 percent travel)

    Essential Responsibilities:

    As the Licensing Specialist, Canadian Regulatory Affairs, you will:

    • Coordinate and prepare licensing reports, including preparation of responses to customer and Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) questions

    • Assist in the preparation of licence applications for new reactors

    • Prepare licensing documentation and reports supporting customer licence amendment applications

    • Perform Operational Limits and Conditions/Technical Specification reviews and updates

    • Review and prepare Preliminary and Final Safety Analysis Report markups and revisions supporting new licence applications and various plant and fuel changes

    • Prepare and perform verification tasks for safety evaluations

    • Support customer reviews, including preparation of licensing reports and work with internal teams evaluating licensing status of various fuel, methods, and methodology changes

    • Interface with customers and regulatory personnel on regulatory issues, and to secure applicable permissions and approvals related to work scopes

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university or college (OR Master's Degree in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university or college 

    • Minimum of 5 years of related professional work experience, with a minimum of 2 years of direct nuclear licensing experience and a minimum of 1 year of experience leading complex projects, and providing regulatory guidance / direction to contributing functions (i.e., Engineering)

    Desired Qualifications:

    • CNSC (Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission) Licensing process and regulatory knowledge / technical knowledge in new nuclear plant licensing including licence application requirements under REGDOC-1.1.2, REGDOC-1.1.3, and REGDOC-2.5.2

    • CNSC Licensing process and regulatory knowledge / technical knowledge of one or more areas, such as nuclear fuel, operating plants, etc.

    • Working knowledge of BWR/PWR systems, fuel, or operations

    • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness in working / communicating with CNSC personnel

    • Experience working with Canadian industry groups (i.e., Owners Groups) on nuclear licensing matters

    • International licensing experience

    • Excellent technical writing skills with the ability to create technical reports suitable for a wide range of audiences

    • Effective interpersonal and facilitation skills

    • Process skills related to coordinating and documenting complex technical documents

    • Externally focused: takes action to enhance the reputation of the company / represents the company well at all opportunities

    • Clear thinker: communicates messages clearly and concisely with the ability to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on the best available information / ability to sift through complex information and focus on critical few priorities

    Additional Qualifications:
